There was never a question that Mr. Spaniel and I would do a “first look” before the ceremony. We wanted to sign our ketubah together, and we wanted to get all of our formals done before the ceremony so that we could enjoy the cocktail hour with our guests!

But we also wanted to be able to focus on each other and have a special moment the first time we saw each other on our wedding day—I was really worried we wouldn’t have a chance to actually connect, so to speak—so we planned for it to be (mostly) private before heading into group and family pictures.

It was so surreal seeing each other for the first time that day! I’m so glad that we had the chance to do this before the ceremony, because my fears were well-founded! Everything happened so fast and furious afterward—this way we actually had a few uninterrupted minutes to let everything sink in. (And also: a chance to check each other out!)

First off, you two look amazing!

After speaking with photographers and seeing tons of first look pics, I thought I really wanted to do one, but the FI wasn’t so excited. He is very traditional and wasn’t really buying it. I was still pushing for it though. But somehow, something changed when I bought my dress. I’m not sure what, or how to describe it, but I knew that I didn’t want to do it. I could only imagine him seeing me for the first time at the end of the aisle.

I would love to have some of the pics though

We did a first look too. Hubs was soooo against it but I talked him into it. Phew! And he was so glad I did. Not only were the pics amazing but we were both SO much more relaxed as soon as we saw each other. Nothing else mattered once I was with him.

I should probably add, Mr. Spaniel didn’t care about the first look, and it’s traditional in Jewish weddings anyway as part of the bedeken (unveiling–which we didn’t do), although there are lots of other people present for that event!

We are doing one also. I can’t wait. I too feel like this will be a very intimate time for the two of us to have before the “day” starts. You guys look amazing. I love your henna too.

we are doing a first look as well, and your pics turned out great! my big worry about it is that it will feel too “staged” with 2 photographers and 2 videographers catching our every move, but we gotta have them there right?? i didnt want to do a first look in the beginning, but finally decided we have to do it so we can spend the afternoon taking pics at a non-stressful pace, and then can enjoy the cocktail hour with our guests! plus, this means we can hang out together while we wait for the ceremony to begin and honestly, that will calm my nerves alot to have him with me!
