Hodgepodge: Be Gone!

June 3rd, 2010 @ 3:17 pm by Mrs. Seashell

Eclectic and mix-and-match is one thing. Hodgepodge is another. The Seashells have some serious hodgepodge living in our cabinets.

Hodgepodge: Be Gone! : wedding providence registry Cabinet cabinet

{Personal Photo}

The dishes and bowls I could live with (minus those striped ones), but the cups and glasses make me downright crazy. Sometimes I actually open our cabinet doors and whisper, “Ugh, I hate you…”

Someday, in not too long, (read: post-bridal showers) I will proudly show off our cabinets looking more like this:

Hodgepodge: Be Gone! : wedding providence registry Cabinet01 cabinet01

{source}

Specifically with these types of items:

Hodgepodge: Be Gone! : wedding providence registry Stuff stuff

{all from our actual registry here}

And just when you’d think I could get hopelessly excited about boxes like these rolling in…

Hodgepodge: Be Gone! : wedding providence registry Boxes boxes

Mr. Seashell comes up with the genius idea: “Don’t you think we should wait to open and use everything until after the wedding? They are wedding gifts after all. Plus, you talk about that whole post-wedding blues thing. Don’t you want something to look forward to?”

OMG. Wait!? Has he met me? This is going to be a tall order…

Are you dying to have your cabinets filled with shiny, new, and matching registry items? Does your FI know exactly how to push your crazy buttons?

I opened just so I could write the thank you notes now. But since they were open I went ahead and washed everything and put them in the cabinets :)

hahaha, this reminds me of the commercial where the woman is dreaming that she has a perfectly labeled pantry and fridge. I . . .GULP. . .have to agree with FI. It will give you something to look forward to after the wedding if you wait.

Haha, we haven’t really used our wedding gifts yet either, it’s been so tough!

We waited until after the wedding, but I didn’t move into his place until two days before the wedding and I didn’t want him messing up the new stuff, i.e. boil overs and stuff in the dishwasher that doesn’t belong in the dishwasher.

We waited, BUT we got those glasses as well and I LOVE them. We used to have a corner cabinet just like that, I loved it - it held SO much!

We registered last night and my FI was like, where are we going to put all this stuff? Our cupboards are packed already! I had to explain that the mismatched plates, bowls, and silverware along with all of our old hand-me-down pots and pans are going to Goodwill after the wedding where they belong. On another note, I thought it was funny when the representatives from the knife and pan companies asked us if we entertained a lot. We just said no, we life in a loft apartment, oh the shock and horror! Also, Macy’s must think that we want to entertain kings and queens after we get married. I was floored by how expensive most everything there is!

We have definitely been opening gifts & using them. I would haatee to wait - it would be torture but I suppose exciting to come home from the honeymoon to that!

OMG!? How can you girls stand to not open the gifts. But my FI and I live together so we’ve already broken the items out and have them sitting nicely in our cabinets.

PS. Miss Seashell: I registered for those exact dishes!! I love them!

I have one registry item (well a set, since it was a set of fiesta ware) that we use…. The only reason we use it is because my aunt bought it as a birthday present and not a wedding present ha ha ha. So I felt since my birthday was in March and that was my BIRTHDAY present I could sneak it in before the wedding even though it was technically a registry item ;-)

My FI is opposite your FI; he thinks we should start using everything when we get it lol.

We have a ton of hodge podge too. Since we don’t currently have a dishwasher (curse you, grad school!) I am scared to open the new pretty stuff… so we’re waiting until after the honeymoon to sort, donate, and toss.

Crate and Barrel makes it easy to just take out the shipping tag for thank yous without digging into the gifts.

Oooooh!! I’d die if all those goodies were staring at me… thankfully all our gifts are going to be sent to my FIs home 3500 miles away from me. It will give me something to do once I get settled in my new home :)

I can’t wait until we start to get some stuff in so I can get rid of our ugly glasses too. Funny thing, I know those striped bowls because I used to have them :) Pier 1 circa 2005 or so…that’s when I worked there and got them hella cheap. HAHA

Does anyone have any advice for dealing with their fiance who refuses to get rid of their stuff? We have mismatched plates, glasses, everything- but his mother gave them to him when he moved out so he wants to keep them. Not only keep them, but he doesn’t even want to register for anything! I have always been so excited to have some gorgeous dishware, but he’s very utilitarian and says we have too much already?

We definitely have been just using things as we’ve gotten them. We’re not very good at waiting (see e.g. civil ceremony).

My fiancé suggested we wait, too….. So now we just have delivery boxes piling up in a spare bedroom! I sure am looking forward to opening everything, not only to see what it all is, get thank yous written… but also to get that bedroom cleaned up!
