Mrs. Perfume's Picture
Mrs. Perfume, DC Age and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Consultant Engagement Date: May 13, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
About Mrs. Perfume

Here we are moments after the ceremony: hugging, just the two of us, in disbelief, taking it all in. Then our family and friends poured out of the garden. There were congratulations and hugs by close family members. These are my very favorite moments…

They were then ushered up the hill to the cocktail hour as we remained under the garden gallery to get some group portraits.

After we were finished, the BMs and groomsmen and our family joined the group as we lingered for a bit, soaking it all in, looking down at our wedding site and then up at the wonderful group that had gathered to celebrate with us. Then we walked up the hill through a fabulous gauntlet of the petal toss!! That was so fun!

The cocktail hour was a great time to talk with friends and finally catch our breaths! The children played on the lawn in this valley, we were nestled between the grand old hotel and the majestic Allegheny mountains. It was like a dream. I felt like I was transported back in time to an old fashioned lawn party. This is what I envisioned. We took a few more portraits and had fun with the photographers before we all went inside for dinner.

I’ve been pretty anti-group portraits, but I think I may put group shots back on the table after seeing yours! You all look so lovely on the steps together :) What beautiful candids & memories!

Why don’t Asians (not necessarily Asian-Americans) smile in pictures?

@Miss Trail Mix: @Miss Seashell: @alivoo01: @winter: @Mrs. Quiche: Thank you, ladies!

@RecessionistaBride: I was anti-group shots, too. There weren’t very many! I think you should have some!

@Sunshine: You noticed that, too? I’m always telling my mom to smile. I think it’s a nutty stoicism thing!

its funny how through all your planning and explanations of what you wanted things to look like, and how you wanted them to feel, this is EXACTALLY what I envisioned! You look stunning with that big bright smile, and I’m so glad you got everything you wanted!

Your pictures just look out of a dream. The one with your bridesmaids with parasols is amazing. I might say it on every post you write, but you made such a gorgeous bride.

How perfect! The lawn, the dainty drink glasses, the parasols, the beautiful building in the background. It’s almost like you got married in 19th Century England. :)
