Mrs. Pencils's Picture
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MD Age and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non Profit Engagement Date: July 26, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Morningside Inn About Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
About Mrs. Pencils

For the last few years, I’ve complained mentioned my strong desire to learn something new. A new language, a new sport, a new instrument. For his entire life, one thing that Mr. Pencils has done well is listen—even when you think he has stopped.

Thus begins the story of Mr. Pencils’ wedding gift to me. A simple story, of love and a desire to learn something new.

A long, long, long time ago, Mr. Pencils would type me letters for me to read on my long flights home to Idaho for summer and holidays. He did the same thing for his wedding notes to me—it was like going back in time on the day we were making the biggest leap together.

Mr. P said “this is exactly the face I imagined you’d make when I gave you your gift.”

Then came Best Man AH with part two: the CELLO itself.

Bridesmaid PF: “Not there! The bow moves across lower on the cello.” I should trust her- she has played the clarinet forever (Hook ’em Horns!)

So I went lower, and even then, I was still not in the right place!

So far, I have learned how to hold the bow correctly, pluck (pizzicato) the strings, and play G, D, E and F sharp.

I will never be able to thank Mr. P enough for his generosity and his gift. It’s like a testament to how much he believes in me, that he’d get me a gift that could and will cause headaches as I practice. Thank you so much hubby!

I LOVE the cello- I got peer pressured into viola in elementary school though. Then I dropped it for flute. Which I then dropped for drama club… arg.

I’ve played violin for years. It is a beautiful instrument and learning a string instrument can be SO rewarding. It will sound awful for so long but the day you can make it do what you want it to– its an incredible feeling! That is a fantastic wedding gift.

What an awesome gift! Message me if you’re ISO a cello teacher, I grew up in McLean, and still know a few people in the area.

Congrats Mrs Pencils! That is an amazing gift…I’m a little biased, since I’ve played the cello for years–but what a great choice! It’s a beautiful instrument and I hope that you enjoy learning how to play it. Best wishes to you and Mr. P!!
