Mrs. Knitting's Picture
Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
About Mrs. Knitting

I was at the St. Lawrence Market Antique Market today and I found a new silhouette picture. I am currently completely in love with silhouettes. I’m in the process of collecting a group of silhouette pictures to display on my wall all together. With today’s find that brings my grand total up to… 3 pictures! I still have a ways to go, unfortunately.

Here’s a look at my rather limited collection (both photos by me):

That’s the new one I bought today. It’s hand painted on wood and it’s from the 1930s or ’40s. I’m quite in love!

Anyway, just for fun I’ve included a bit more silhouette inspiration below for any of you who are equally loving silhouettes right now.

I really like the women’s washroom sign. That might be a fun way to work silhouettes into our wedding. Although, honestly, I’d probably be the only person who would notice!

Do you have a great way of working silhouettes into a wedding?

The yellow bride and groom next to the pretty yellow/pink envelope liner is the designer of my invitations!! Love them! :)

My sister made silhouettes for us that we will put in oval frames and have displayed on the escort card table. I might use them for the table numbers too.

The bathroom signs are a great idea! I might use that too :)

I think the last picture of the bride and groom silhouettes is a simple way of adding them to a wedding. I really like the picture of the family silhouettes by Alexandra Hedin.

We had a silhouette made of the two of us at Disney World.
We made it into a stamp to make the tags for our tea bag favors, and also had it made into postage for our invitations!

I love it! If you have photoshop or illustrator you could easily make a set of you and Mr. K and hang them on the bathroom doors and wherever else you fancy. Print it on some cream paper and maybe it will look a little more vintage-y.

Oh, my mother got an artist to do silhouettes of my sister and me when we were little, and they’ve been hanging in our living room for as long as I can remember. They match the dozen+ silhouettes of family members that my grandparents have hanging on black satin ribbons from a wrought-iron hanging bar in their living room. Such a lovely tradition. I’d love to get some done of FI and myself. No silhouettes in our wedding though.

Have you considered having your own silhouettes done? Or doing them yourself on photoshop or with a tracer? If you don’t have time and are interested, it’s actually a very simple thing for a professional artist to do

I had mine done as a child, at Disneyland. I wonder if you could hire a silhouette cutter as a wedding activity/favor?

I am totally in love with silhouettes, too! I did one of my dog and, although it’s not exactly related, it is one of my favorite pieces of household decor!
