About Mrs. Frog

Over the Moon

June 9th, 2010 @ 5:55 pm by Mrs. Frog

*Happy Anniversary Frogger. I love you more than words can say.*

A while back I wrote about our favorite type of vacation… need a refresher?

So, I’m sure it will come as no surprise that Frogger and I ultimately decided to take a cruise for our honeymoon.

Sorry about that, Frogger and I have decided to start watching the show Lost now that it’s completely over. We’re freaks.

And almost every episode does a flashback to remind you of what was on the previous episode - that gets pretty old when you are watching multiple episodes in a row. Yeah, we’re totally lame and are doing nothing after dinner but watching a show that is no longer on the air.

Digress much? Okay back to the good stuff… like this:

Over the Moon : wedding honeymoon phoenix Caribbe1

(source) Can I please go here… now?

We knew we wanted to go somewhere we had never been. And we are most definitely beach people so it needed to be warm with lots of opportunities for lounging in the sun - preferably with cocktails. What? I’m just keeping it real.

We had already done cruises to all over Mexico - go figure, huh? And when we got engaged, we visited both Belize and Guatemala. So that narrowed things down to either the Caribbean or Hawaii. Luckily that decision was made pretty easily because good friends of ours are getting married in February in Hawaii. Second honeymoon anyone?

So, to the Caribbean we go. We knew we wanted to go for longer than 7 days because this might be the only time we are able to justify taking that much time away from work. My awesome bosses gave me an extra week of vacation time so I’m thrilled we will actually be able to take a long, relaxing honeymoon.

After searching all of the usual sites in our cruising arsenal, we reached out to a travel agent to see if she was able to find anything better. Ultimately, we found the absolute best deal through the cruise line directly, if you can believe it. But we like to work the system so after booking it through the cruise line website, we passed all of our information off to our travel agent and she was able to secure us onboard credits - yippee!

I’ve done quite a bit of talking here… how about the details?

Over the Moon : wedding honeymoon phoenix Cruise

Here’s our cruise ship. Ahoy!

Did I really just type “ahoy” up there? Yikes. So yes, that is our lovely ship. We will be spending 10 glorious nights in a balcony room - in the past the nicest we have had is an ocean view room so we are stoked. Wanna see where we are going? I thought you might.

Over the Moon : wedding honeymoon phoenix Antigua

Antigua

Over the Moon : wedding honeymoon phoenix Barbado

Barbados

Over the Moon : wedding honeymoon phoenix St Thom

St. Thomas

Over the Moon : wedding honeymoon phoenix Bahamas01

The cruise line’s private island in the Bahamas

Over the Moon : wedding honeymoon phoenix Stkitts

St. Kitts

And I saved my favorite for last - my one request of a Caribbean cruise was that we had to stop in…

Over the Moon : wedding honeymoon phoenix St Luci

St. Lucia!

I can hardly take it. We feel so lucky to have been able to book a honeymoon that we will love.

We have yet to book any excursions but I will say, there is one that we are pretty sure is a must:

Over the Moon : wedding honeymoon phoenix Boss

It’s called BOSS - Breathing Observation Submersible Scooter

Has anyone done this? I’m dying to try it! Note to self, bring underwater camera.

Anyone else taking a cruise for their honeymoon? Any suggestions for additional excursions if you’ve been to these islands?

Oh you’ll have so much fun!! We just got back from our honeymoon in Antigua and loved it. I know this will probably sound kind of “duh” but dude, Antigua is effing hot this time of year. Meaning the rest of that part of the Caribbean is effing hot this time of year, too. Just be prepared to sweat. A lot. Profusely. Buckets. But it will be super fun, anyway :)

We are taking a cruise for our honeymoon—but not for the beach and sun, instead for the cool parts of New England and Canada during leaf peeping season! Four weeks after we get married in September we are leaving NYC, hit up Halifax, St. John and then back down to the States to see Bar Harbor, Maine; Boston; Newport, RI and back to NYC. So excited!

You ever been on a Norwegian cruise ship?

LOL we just started watching “Lost” too!! It’s filmed here, so we figured we ought to check it out — but it kinda sucked us in! So we keep watching a bunch of them all in a row and have to endure the obnoxious recaps too. Haha!

The cruise sure looks fun — I wanna try the BOSS!!

Okay I stopped reading after the “Lost” shout-out, because my fiance and I just started doing the exact same thing - now that it’s all over. I totally agree with you on the recaps at the beginning “previously on Lost…”

Our cruise stopped in Barbados and there’s a beach called the Boatyard. You pay to get in and it includes umbrellas and chairs to sit in and 2 drink tickets. It was a beautiful beach!

We went on a cruise for our honeymoon and it was perfect! We had two sea days up front - which was a great opportunity to get some rest before we started doing excursions. Great call on booking a balcony room. On our honeymoon we had an oceanview room. However, we went on a second cruise and got a balcony and we loved it! Our favorite was ordering room service breakfast & eating it on the balcony each morning. So nice to start the morning quietly, just the two of us - staring out into the ocean. We also slept with the door open - so awesome to hear the waves and feel the breeze. Have a great time!

Oh, I am SOOO kicking myself for not going on a Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon now! We chose Disney (NOT recommended), and we needed a vacation from that vacation, so we’re contemplating a second honeymoon asap. This is looking awfully good, but isn’t July right in the middle of hurricane of season there? That’s part of the reason we opted out. Anyway, SO jealous!

@FallFlowers: That sounds amazing - I’m loving the idea of having our balcony open at night while we are sleeping…ahh!

@alohababy28: We aren’t actually going on our honeymoon until October - we didn’t want to do hurricane season either! :)

My family used to cruise a lot when I was younger and one of my favorite excursions was taking the tour from St. Thomas to Trunk Bay on St. Johns. They have an underwater snorkel trail and every photo you will take looks like a post card! I think it’s the prettiest beach in the VI, but I’m now bias since my fiancé knew this and proposed to me there :)
This is an awesome cruise itinerary, you’re going to have the best time!

Frogger, if I can suggest one thing and one thing only, when you get to Barbados you MUST and I mean MUST take a cab up to the north side of the island (your ship will mostly likely dock on the southwest side of the island). Take a cab (or the bus system, very cheap and very easy!) to the cave systems on the north side of the island. The caves completely fill with water during high tide, during low tide they are breath taking.

Then head east to St. Nicholas Abby (it is amazing, trust me) then take a scenic drive down the east side of the island. Barbados is also known for their pottery and mahogany sculptures (Medford Mahogany is the best, Reggie is awesome!). Let me know if you want more tips! I spent over a month there on study abroad and pretty much know the tiny 14 by 22 mile island by heart.
