Mrs. Taco's Picture
Mrs. Taco, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor Engagement Date: May 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.

Marriage License: Check

June 9th, 2010 @ 6:47 pm by Mrs. Taco

Woo hoo:

Marriage License: Check : wedding license san francisco 2010 06 08 130046 2

Credit: personal photo by Mr. Taco. It is SO WINDY.

Sixty-seven days out, we went to SF City Hall to snag our license. It’s conveniently located across the street from our venue (see above), so we snapped this commemorative shot while waiting for our return bus. We solemnly swore that we filled out the information correctly: names, addresses, parents’ names, and places of birth. I guess we indirectly solemnly swore that we were not homosexual (not like they checked our parts or anything) or related, too. I almost paid for the souvenir public license, then wondered what we’d do with it exactly. It’s way too big for my scrapbook, and we don’t even have our diplomas on the wall; so, it’s probably just as well.

It’s nice to have this item checked off, but it’s also the first time I saw my new name on something official. That was my favorite part.

Next step: don’t lose it.

When did you get your license? Did you have a good time, or was it akin to waiting in line at the post office or DMV? Where’s it living until you get married? Seriously, don’t lose it if your municipalities are anything like ours!

We got ours about two weeks before the wedding. We’re in LA County and the closest location was the LAX courthouse, which apparently has no parking. And we inadvertantly picked a day with street sweeping, so we stood in line to fill out the forms and pay. Then we had to go move the car before we could come back to pick up the license. (Apparently they require at least one hour to type your names on the form.) Then we did the swearing and signing.

I just mailed everything back today. I hope that goes smoothly. So much stuff had to go in there, including the signed marriage license, a notarized form swearing that I am who I say I am, another form asking for a copy of the marriage certificate, a $14 check, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Let’s hope I filled it out correctly. I’d hate to find out we’re not really married because someone signed in the wrong color ink.

Yay for SF! And marriage licenses, and new names! Our Domestic Partnership certificate just arrived and it’s a total trip to see our new, combined names all official! :)

ours was pretty much like waiting in line at the DMV. And we had to do it twice since the changed the rules and our church messed up the papers. It wasn’t fun.

actually just got ours a few hours ago…in Florida (this county that we are in…we have to get married within the 60 day time period of getting the license) Today we are down to 24 days…ample-time-age! All we are waiting on is the last “stamp” by our officiant and da-da-ta-da…we will be married. It would have been much more easier however if we had eloped. Congrats!!!

Congrats on getting your license! We kept ours in Mr. Parfait’s car, so we didn’t have to wonder which house it was at.
