Packing for Providence

June 10th, 2010 @ 11:44 am by Mrs. Seashell

This weekend, Mr. Seashell and I are Providence-bound for my bridal shower. In addition to the usual shoes, clothing, and toiletries our suitcases are going to be crammed full of wedding stuff. Ah, yes, the joys of long-distance wedding planning.

Here’s the run down:

Pearls

Remember my “let’s add these to our centerpieces” inspiration? No? Well, these lovelies have to get to Providence (and more specifically to our florist) at some point. Best part? They’re heavy.

I haven’t shown it to you yet, so I’ll save that for another post. But, here it is all boxed up. It will survive a hot and humid New England summer, right?

Mr. Seashell and I started working on one similar this after we picked out our wedding bands on Saturday. Since I haven’t mentioned this yet, there will be no sneak peeks! I will say that they’re kind of huge so they’ll have to be hand carried on the plane. Fun, fun.

Handkerchief

My FMIL presented this to me at Thanksgiving. It’s a family heirloom that I’m extremely touched to have. The note reads: “Dear Miss Seashell - My Grandmother, Mr. Seashell’s Great Grandmother, made this for me to carry on my wedding day! I want you to have it and pass on to your children. You and Mr. Seashell make us very happy! As Jacki (her niece) said, ’we are going to have the time of our lives!’ This will be a great year. Love, FMIL and FFIL”

Wedding Reception Shoes

I ordered these puppies a few months back and they’ve been sitting in my closet anxiously awaiting their debut. They won’t do much good in Chicago, so I may as well get them on their way to Providence as well.

Ultimately, all of these items could hang out in Chicago a few more months, but as the wedding gets closer and closer I’m sure I’ll have a lot more on my mind. So, while I’m feeling somewhat organized, I may as well get these things situated at my parents’ house and know that they’re safe and sound until September!

If you’re a long-distance bride, do you feel like you’re schlepping every time you’re in the same town as your wedding?

ha! i can totally relate. every time we make a trip back home, we try to take some wedding stuff with us. about a month or so ago we took two massive boxes filled with glassware down with us and dropped one box off at my parents’ house and the other at mr.v’s parents’. this last time we went, i took my gown and rehearsal dress and left ‘em at mom and dad’s. and the mister’s parents have all 25 (super tall) centerpiece stands at their house. our apartment is so tiny that keeping all of these things is quite literally impossible, but i also feel realllly bad about going and dumping all our stuff at our parents’ houses. it’s not their crap and yet they have to look at it all the dang time! lol. ah well. nobody’s complained… yet.

I feel ya Seashell! Not only am I schlepping things down to FL the weekend of my shower, but the days leading up to the shower will be spent running from one vendor appointment to the next, since that is the last time before the wedding I will be down!
LOVE the shoes!!!

@mgli2006: They’re by Tory Burch. I got mine at Nordstrom - they’re super comfy and will be perfect for dancing all night!

I love your Tory Burch flats!! I wanted the silver ones that were shiny like that for my wedding, but am now going back and forth on a couple of pairs of shoes!
And love how organized you are! Here’s hoping for a stress-free couple of months for you! :)

Definitely. We have a whole closet-full of stuff to lug with us the next time we go home. It’s just crazy how much accumulates!!

We’re getting married where we went to college, so unfortunately we have to bring everything the week of. Luckily we were able to leave a few vases with a family friend up there on our last planning visit otherwise it’s going to be some strategic packing!

My parents and grandparents will be loading up as well although we are crazy enough to be bringing our centerpiece flowers from home, cut from friends’ gardens. Should be interesting! Luckily we don’t have to get on a plane!

Every chance we got, we brought stuff up to my parents’ house, since we live in a 400 sq ft studio!

That has totally been the story of my life for the last year. And my poor parents - everytime they have come to visit, I’ve sent them with loads of wedding crap. I’m sure the same thing will happen post-wedding with the things we want to keep, not to mention the gifts!

I feel your pain. I used to bring wedding stuff into town everytime I came. Thankfully it and I are finally in our final destination.

And I thought we had it bad, moving all our stuff from our Chicago condo to the suburbs. You have a much longer way to go, but it looks like you’ve got everything under control!

I definitely hear ya there! When I went home for my bridal shower I schlepped a huge suitcase of out of town bags and bamboo pasta bowls for our tables. It was craziness, plus it was my only trip back with stuff, so now I have to either ship it or bring it with me in August. Yikes!

I’m 3000 miles from my venue, but luckily my parents live very close to it, so I’ve been having things I’ve ordered sent directly to them instead of to me. It’s just easier this way — but yes, long distance can be so tricky on many levels!

I really don’t think I could be a long distance wedding planner, I barely had the energy to help my best friend plan hers! Good luck to you both, I’m sure it will all be worth it in the end.
