About Mrs. Scissors

A Gift for My Groom

June 11th, 2010 @ 11:41 am by Mrs. Scissors

For our wedding day presents, we set some ground rules, or rather, one ground rule—don’t spend too much money. With each of our secret ideas, we kept upping the price barrier. First? It had to be handmade, with little-to-no money spent. Next? Under $50. Then? Under $100. Now, we’ve both bought things in the just-under-$200 range. I have no idea what he has bought me, but I am pleased as punch with my purchase for him.

Everyone else, continue after the jump, and again, Mr. Scissors, if you click on this, I will be pissed. Love you.

OK, he’s gone.

When searching for a gift for Mr. Scissors, I thought I had stumbled upon the perfect present. Remember our “Pray for ATL” shots from the engagement session? Well, I found the original artist of the graffiti, and I thought I would be able to order one of his wood thingies of the exact “Pray for ATL” hands. Enter said artist going slightly AWOL, and my antsy bride self realized that 1- we really didn’t need a giant set of wooden hands, especially given all of the canvases of mine we need to hang and 2-I was gonna need to figure out a new present.

First thought? Watch. Fancy, awesome, super-snazzy-pants watch. Problem? My taste in watches tends to stay in the entirely-too-expensive-God-that-could-be-a-car price range. Either that, or classic brands, styles, faces. (I am still waiting for a Casio calculator watch. Hint, hint…) While piddling through the J.Crew website, I noticed that their “vintage” Timex had been released with a white face, and damn did it look sharp. Dressier than his everyday beepy-at-7AM digital watch, but not a boring blah-blah watch. Dressy-up or dressy-down.

I will give this handsome watch, along with an extra black-and-gray band, to my handsome soon-to-be-husband on our wedding day. I will wrap it in a ridiculously large package, I think, and throw in some random memento-type goodies. I love it, and I hope he does too.

What are you gifting your groom? Did you have a price-point rule, or did you just go wild with a fun purchase?

I went nuts and went way over our price range, but I’m pleased as punch with my groom’s gift. I went for it and did a boudoir session and made a DIY album. Totally impractical, but hopefully he’ll love it.

Oooh the watch is nice! The interchangeable bands is a neat touch.

I love the pray for atl hands! Not sure if the wood version I’m thinking of is made by the same artist, but you can get it at young blood gallery and they had some in stock last time I was there… (They also sell is at Octane at Emory Village.) Just fyi if yall decide to get it down the road!

My groom’s gift was allowing him to have a keg of Guiness at the reception. I didn’t think it’d go over that well since not everyone likes it, but they actually drank more Guiness than Hefeweizen. Our friends are total lushes.

I know I have a while, but I am stressing what to get my groom for our wedding present. I guess the common gifts are watches and cuff links, but I already got him a Bulova watch for Christmas a couple years ago and he never really wears cuff links. I want to give him something practical, but a big screen TV wouldn’t seem to sentimental. Any ideas??

@French Manicure: If you want a more keepsake gift, I’ve seen some really wonderful wallets– from very nice to super nice and also hilarious. Anything monogrammed is also nice, since you have so much time. I also got him a pair of custom converse– they say “Groom” on the back, and he loves ‘em.

OR an engraved Ipod!

FI and I decided to just gift each other wedding rings. But since mine will probably end up being a fair amount more than his, I want to get him something else, too, but have NO idea what. I got him a watch a couple of years ago for Christmas, so that won’t work. He absolutely LOVES Corvettes, and I found a place that will let you rent one for a day, so I’m thinking about doing that? Not sure yet, though.

I’m gifting my man sky diving lessons…I figured he’ll never forget that and he gets to do something that he really wants to do.

I spent way too much on a watch for my FI that we found on, what turned out to be, our engagement trip. (I will probably still be paying it off after the wedding…oops!) He is an excellent gift giver, and spoils everyone else, so I figured it was his turn for some spoiling! It was an early grooms gift but at least he’ll already have it to wear the entire wedding weekend.

Nice gift selection…he’ll love it!

We’ve spent enough on the wedding so we’re not really planning on doing gifts, but good choice on the watch- I know my FH has been drooling over this in the J.Crew catalog for a while :).

Mine got a humidor and a selection of cigars, and accessories, and I got an ipod classic! We made a list of ideas for each other, just like we do at Christmas and birthdays. This way it is still a surprise and we get what we want in the end.

I’ve given my husband two watches during the course of our relationship, so I think it’s an awesome gift. Love the one you chose. I got my husband custom map cufflinks on Etsy. One is a map of the city where we first met, and the other is a map of our wedding day town. He’s worn them about 10 times since the wedding (6 weeks ago), so I know he loves them :)

I’m going to rent him a Lamborghini for the day! He really wanted one from the get-go but gave it up for something more practical at the wedding (putting that money towards catering) so I’m going to surprise him by having it delivered a few hours before the wedding. He’ll go play around in it and then that will be our getaway car. He’s going to flip out and our photographer will be there to capture it all!
