Mrs. Knitting's Picture
Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
About Mrs. Knitting

I knew who our flower girls were going to be long before our wedding. I realize that people generally expect flower girls to look like this:

However, ours will actually be looking a bit different, at least in terms of size, anyway. I’m having grown up flower girls. 22 year old flower girls actually. Here they are:

My baby sister (who is 22) always wanted to be a flower girl when she was an appropriate age to be a flower girl, but never got the chance. Thus, when it became apparent that the Mr. and I planned to eventually get married my sister and I decided that she would finally get the chance to be an FG. We also decided it would be even more fun if my sister’s friend, who is basically like a 2nd baby sister to me became her assistant flower girl.

They’re both a bit zany and lots of fun, so we’re going to have a good time dressing them. We’re currently aiming for a hint of magical woodland creatures. This picture below is actually a pretty good representation of their personalities, so you can see I’m expecting them to be quite exciting flower girls.

I haven’t really put too much time into thinking what they’ll wear yet. Actually, that’s a lie. We’ve come up with tons of ridiculous ideas (strawberry headdress and a watering can anyone?), but nothing that we would actually follow through with. I realize it’s highly unusual to have grown up flower girls, and while I do want them to look a bit whimsical, I don’t want it to come across as a huge joke.

That being said, it’s entirely possible wings will be making an appearance…

Awww so cute! My flower girls were adamant about frilly updos (with curls!), tiaras and shoes with little heels. As for me and my BMs, we’re just planning for simple blowouts… So the FGs will be blingin it up for us!

My flower girl and ring bearer are both in their twenties too! We’ve got very mixed reactions but i am excited to include them and have a little light hearted fun with it! No wings for me but definitely a bow tie for the guy and maybe a cute headband for her. Understated silly?

I think this is really great! I had some strong reactions about one of my flower girls being seven and my ring bearer being 10! Apparently those ages are surpassed the age of cuteness to which I say SO WHAT???

@Melissa: Yes, exactly! But yeah, I definitely haven’t even bothered to try to explain this to some of our guests…
@Laura: Aww so adorable. I love.@Purple Orchid: People get bothered over the stupidest things. Your FG and RB will be wonderful. Plus, I suspect they are important people to you and were not chosen based only on their potential cuteness.

Heehee, so fun! We were on the other end of the spectrum with a barely one-year-old flower girl.

Oh, man, this post makes me feel LOTS better about my FG choices. The two I’ve chosen will always be 2 and 6 in my eyes, though I recently realized they will actually be about 8 and 12 by the time the wedding rolls around. They are super special to me, so I was debating promoting them to junior bridesmaids just due to their age. But now that I know more of us are being unconventional about it, I’m pumped. Maybe we’ll just find a less toddler-ish way of tossing out the petals?

BTW, Miss Knitting, we are also going with more of a Flower Child look than Flower Girl. So great!
