I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. If I Had a Second Dress…

June 14th, 2010 @ 3:55 pm by Mrs. Earrings

Now, I haven’t even told you about my first dress (THE dress) yet but right now my mind is on that other dress. You know, the one some brides have for the reception and/or going away. It usually seems to be characterised by being cute, short, flirty and oh-so-perfect for dancing.

Anyway. I won’t be having one of those dresses (*sigh*) for two reasons:

  1. I spent half an arm and a leg on the actual wedding dress and dang it if I don’t force as many hours out of it as I possibly can.
  2. I’m a student. Student = poor and starving. OK not so starving. But poor.

But I’m allowed to hypothesize what the second dress would like it if I happened to get one, right? Indulge me anyway. ‘Cause I’m digging these beauties:

This one is sweet and simple without being TOO simple, if you know what I mean:

Lace? Gimme more.

And who says the second dress has to be white? I love the gold detail on this one.

What are your thoughts on the second dress?

I love the idea, especially because we will be leaving from venue to honeymoon. but like you, I want to squeeze as many hours out as possible, and will likely change into something super comfy for the plane, if I change!

I just went with a shorter dress for the whole night, but I think white + short for dancing is the way to go if you don’t want to worry about someone stepping on your bustle and causing a train wreck (literally!)

What about one of these as a rehearsal dress? Then you could have your cake and eat it too!

One of the unexpected benefits to our early wedding (ceremony in the morning, reception ending late afternoon) is that it was totally justifiable to buy a second dress to wear out to dinner with my new husband that night. I couldn’t justify a second dress for the reception even if I didn’t want to wear my Real Dress for the whole thing, but similarly it would be kind of ridiculous and attention-whoreish to stay in a long strapless gown when it’s just the two of us later.

I just got a “Going Away Dress,” as my mother and grandmother call it. It isn’t white, but I didn’t want to leave in my wedding gown and have to depend on my New Husband to get me out of it. (He can be a real dunce when it comes to dresses, SERIOUSLY!) I would rather have something else on!! So, if you really like the beige dress then go for it, but the others are adorable as well. Hard to choose!

Our ceremony + reception = 5 hours and are in the same place. Definitely not changing dresses, but those are all so cute.

I really love the first dress. I’m with Sapphirebride though, our entire wedding is taking place in the same venue — thus, just keeping my dress on.

Those are really cute, but I’m definitely with you on getting as much wear as possible out of the wedding dress!

I want to wear my dress as long as possible, but we’re having a church ceremony and outdoor park reception. If it’s rainy or ridiculously hot, I might change into something shorter and lighter. That said, I ordered a dress on sale from J. Crew this morning (free shipping!). We’ll see if it works. :)

What about using the ’second dress’ as a rehearsal dinner/bridal shower, etc. dress?

I’m wearing a white dress to my rehearsal dinner that I’m going to have on hand during the reception just in case I get sweaty enough dancing to want to change into it…

I also thought a second dress was unattainable. However I found the perfect blue Jim Hjelm gown that I picked up at a second-hand store for $70! It’s just for our departure so I can leave my wedding dress with a family member before we leave for the honeymoon.

I say why change out of an uber expensive dress you love for what usually amounts to a sundress (with a few noted exceptions). I love the idea of a get away dress, but I just wasn’t willing to leave my reception early. With the torrential downpour after our wedding, I wish I did have something to change into!

I love the second dress. It is elegant. Besides, I think it applies to be dressed for other ocassions after wedding. I know an e shop named “dinnel”, where has many different style gown and wedding dress for youth. They are wonderful but cheap. I beleive that it must can help you.
