June 14th, 1975 ♥ 35 years of Mom ‘n’ Dad Thimble

Today marks 35 years since Mom and Dad Thimble pledged their love and vowed to honor and cherish each other for the rest of their lives. They’re still going strong and have been an inspiration for me in everything I do—especially in approaching my relationship and building my life with Mr. Thimble. I thought I’d share the love with the hive today and show off some retro inspiration in my parents’ real wedding:

The first page in my parents’ wedding album—My mom enjoys a quiet moment of reflection and the photographer re-printed their traditional invitation.

My uncle (right) keeps my dad (left) focused before meeting my mother at the altar. Or he’s laughing at him. I mean, yellow bow tie?

I LOOVE this perspective of the newlyweds outside the church, family and friends ready to greet them. The text reads: Marriage is the golden ring in a chain whose beginning is a glance and whose ending is Eternity.

It was a mint green and yellow wedding party, and I see a familiar ribbon trend in my mother’s bouquet! My mom bought all the bridesmaids’ gowns on sale at Kleins for $15.00. She put them on layaway to make sure they were the right sizes first—they all fit the girls perfectly. The tuxes were from After Six, and the flowers were from Torresdale Flowers.

Grandmom K and her sons.

Irreverent traditions:

Tricksy cake smashing

Sassy garter get

And so we all have a good laugh a curse inflation, I present the catering menu from their reception venue circa 1975:

They had chicken and green beans almondine. And of course, ample parking.

I can’t believe the next generation of Thimble wedding photos will be taken in just FOUR MONTHS! Thanks mom and dad for everything over the last 35 years and for all the love and effort you are putting into making our wedding day as special as yours. Happy Flag Day Anniversary!!

Your mother is stunning. I have to laugh at the attire back then. My dad wore a baby blue tux!

Oh wow, Miss Thimble…after seeing their wedding invite (your mom’s first name and her maiden name) — do you happen to have a cousin named Megan who lives in NC?????

One of my best friends growing up and throughout high school (in southern NJ) has an Aunt Moira and her maiden name is the same as your mom’s maiden name. And the family is originally from Philadelphia.

I’m going to send a message to Megan now…

@Joules: I do!! That’s totally my cousin :) Good sleuthing Joules!!

About the veils on the bridesmaids- I asked my mom and she said it was normal, she never thought twice about it (ha!). I suppose it was an old school Catholic cover your head in church thing.

Thanks for all the compliments- my mom sure was a stunner. You all made her day!!! (and thanks for sayin I look like her.. shucks..)

Great photos –we have no candids of my parents who were married in 1959! Your mother looked lovely, but what about those tuxes?! Haha. Isn’t it a hoot that the BMs used to wear veils? You are your mother’s daughter –you look just alike!

[...] Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ wedding is arguably the most famous wedding of the 80s, and their wedding cake is no exception. One of 27(!!) cakes served at the royal reception, this was considered the “official” cake of the famous wedding. The five-ft cake featured the royal family’s coat of arms and was topped with spray roses. Photo: WeddingBee.com [...]
