Mrs. Pretzel's Picture
Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.

It All Started with “&”

June 14th, 2010 @ 10:13 am by Mrs. Pretzel

I share Miss Seashell’s love of the ampersand. Mr Pretzel and I incorporated this textual detail it into both our save the dates “&” our invites. I recently discovered that my love of the “&” has led to a new obsession—miniature photography.

While we were strolling through Kohl’s (maybe stalking our beloved pet hair ball Dyson vacuum cleaner), we spied a table of clearance items… smack dab in the middle was an orange ampersand paperweight. Not only did it match our wedding colors but it also matched our kitchen decor—WIN! We scooped it up. It lounged around our kitchen for a few months until we were in Jo-Ann’s and I saw perfectly sized wooden letters to complement our “&”. I painted them green and was pleased with myself. Then I found our minis and I turned into a mini-photographer.

The “&” lays down just as nicely as it stands up and our Mini’s just can’t keep their hands off each other.

The minis begged for their own photo shoot, and who am I to deny them that?

Obviously the minis will go on the cupcakes at the reception. We’re not sure what to do with the M & A.

What do you think?

I would use them wherever you’re lacking in oumph! I’m not sure what you’re doing with the guestbook, so that might be a good place to start. The graphic quality of the letters will provide a little of spice and color to anything! Great find!

Has anyone ever pointed out to you that in the finance world M&A stands for mergers and acquisitions? Which is really quite apropriate for a wedding : ) Sorry.. I’m a nerd.

Love them! I think they’re super cute with the minis, but I agree with Sea Glass: use them where you need some decorating oomph! Seems to me like those minis have enough decorative charisma to cover the whole cupcake table - let ‘em shine! :D

could also hang the letters over each of your respective chairs… that always looks cute… but then not sure where the ampersand would go. but yeah they are super cute and will look great anywhere! don’t leave them at home!

My gosh! I love it! I actually have made our entire names in paper mache by hand in one of our fonts. 19 letters. I have no idea what I’m gonna do with them. :p

these are awesome! i love the cute colors, and your adorable kitty. btw, for vacuum cleaners that pick up pet hair, i just wanted to put in a little plug for miele (if you’re thinking of making the investment into a dyson i thought maybe a miele would interest you as well!).

Those letters are awesome! My vote’s for one the guestbook table. I agree that the mini’s got the cupcake table/stand covered all by themselves!

I’m with you on the love for that awesome symbol! I’m actually trying to work it into our wedding invitations right now :) Definitely don’t leave them at home! I think with the guestbook would be perfect!

The minis with the tower is so awesome! So, get background photos of places ya’ll been to together and stand the minis upfront. Take a great pic, and use them as art for table numbers! It would be awesome to find a miniature replica of a building, or landmark symbol from the places visited, however, seeing as availability might be hard, just a photograph such as a cool postcard would be awesome to stand behind the minis!

Adorable! I remember Fro Yo blogging about ampersands, too. They’d be adorable anywhere, but I voted for the guest book table!

love ‘em! i’m a big fan of all wedding decor pulling double duty, so i would place them at the guest book table before and during the ceremony, and then move them to the cupcake table for the reception. pretty much all my decor is getting shifted to the reception to get the biggest bang for our buck!
