Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
About Mrs. Knitting

I am a baker. I’m not a professional baker by any means, but I love baking. A lot. This explains why I started thinking about our wedding cake about a second after I got engaged, and also why I’ve been treating you all to a whole series of posts on cake. I spent lots of time poring over books and looking on the Internet and here’s a selection of some of the cakes that initially caught my eye. You’ll notice that for extra fun I’ve divided them into categories!

Plain Old Pretty:

I clearly have a thing for three tiered round cakes with pretty ribbons. Who knew?

Divine Details (the category is a bit pretentious sounding, but yay for alliteration!):

If you saw my St. Lawrence Market post you know I’m a big fan of cameos, so I love the fact that this cake included them.

I love the fact that this design includes text. I’m a big words person myself (that’s right, I made an inspiration list, not an inspiration board) so I’m finding myself really drawn to wedding elements that include text.

I am a huge fan of charms and charm bracelets. I’ve built a number of them and I’m actually creating a wedding charm bracelet (more about that soon). Thus, when I saw this cake featuring charms, I completely fell in love with that idea.

Wedgwood Jasperware:

If you remember from this post, the dining room in our venue is called the Wedgwood Room as the walls are painted to look like Wedgwood Jasperware, which I happen to love. Keeping all that in mind you can see why I fell in love with the idea of also having a Jasperware cake.

So those are some of the types of cakes I’ve been inspired by. Has anyone else found inspiration for your cake in an unusual place (e.g. jewelry or a dining room)?

I love them all! I normally gravitate to the plainer cakes, but that cameo cake is pretty amazing!

Those are all so beautiful! Since you love charm bracelets, maybe you could incorporate cake pulls?

After meeting with our baker we decided to use the color of our enclosures for the ribbon around the tiers. We are also using part the hole punch design as the design around the top of each tier. Thankfully we had decided on the invites the week beforehand :)
