How Many Levels of Compatibility?

June 16th, 2010 @ 10:08 am by Mrs. Socks

Mr. Socks and I met online.

Why do I feel like I’m admitting some shameful thing when I say this? It’s so common now… almost becoming the norm, yet I still feel like I need to defend myself by saying that I wasn’t an awkward loser who couldn’t find a date. Mr. Socks wasn’t either—he was new to the East Coast and didn’t have a ton of chicks walking around his office to pick from.

I took the personality/compatibility test for eHarmony before I knew how much $$$ it was to join. Well, I was a poor college student, figured I didn’t really have the extra cash to burn, so I didn’t sign up and just wistfully reviewed my matches without any way of contacting them.

Then one day––miracle of all miracles––I got an email saying I could have a free three day trial of eHarmony!

So I went online and contacted Mr. Socks.

And Mr. Socks wrote back! He wasn’t exactly what I thought was my “type” since he stated that he DIDN’T read books (I love reading!) and working out was on his top five important activities (working out is all top five of my least important activities). Not that working out is bad, but let’s face it… boys who don’t read and work out constantly equal beefhead, right?

Even though “Jersey Shore” was not running at the time, I feared my Mr. Socks might be something like “The Situation”. And no, I don’t watch this show, but it is kinda annoyingly everywhere, isn’t it?

But I was wrong! Mr. Socks was thoughtful, well-dressed, considerate, and totally took me out to a classy dinner on our first date. Good sign, huh?

So anyway, we met online during a free three day trial of eHarmony (what are the chances??), and things worked out! Is it embarrassing? A little. Does it matter? Not at all! I get to marry this guy!

So hot right now. Mr. Socks. So hot right now.

And just so you know… those two little hiccups in our incompatibility were just about the ONLY two things we didn’t have in common, so it’s all good. ;-)

Did you meet your significant other online?

Yes. I met my husband on Eharmony. I was on there for almost a year before I met him.

I met my FI online. We met on Plenty of Fish. I’m not embarassed that we met online so much as I kind of wish we’d have met on another site, you know? I eventually learned that apparently most people just use plenty of fish to find potential hookups.

I met my FI on Match! I had to pony up for an actual subscription though, so consider yourself lucky. :)

We also met pretty quickly. Not 3 days quick, though. I think he joined Match about 2 1/2 months into my membership and we had our first date the day my 3 months subscription expired.

Hahaha. Love your pic. The Jersey Shore really is annoyingly everywhere. I’ve only watched a couple ep’s out of pure curiousity. Not impressed.

I met my husband online as well. Online dating was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I went on a lot of “first dates.” I realized what I wanted and learned to not settle. Right as I was going to take an online dating sabbatical, I met my husband…and the rest is history.

Now, several of my friends are following my path.

Ironically, no! I loved dating websites when I was in college and met two men that I ended up have long term relationships with (and plenty of one date guys). I was actually just ending a relationship and about to update my profile the next weekend after I hosted an 80’s party. My FI showed up and that was that!

Yep, we met on match.com! We were both tired of the bar scene, so we fell for Dr. Phil’s commercials.

We met online, but no one knows it lol - not even family. Well, expect all of you now. When people ask we say we met through a mutual friend…. Hi meet our friend, his name is Internet…. ha ha. Even though it is so popular now, I definitely have that weird, embarrassed feeling about telling people… But whatevs, he’s my favorite person in the world and I may have never met him if it weren’t for that little embarrassment ;-).

That is so awesome that you guys met during your free three day trial! It was meant to be! :)

I definitely think that options like EHarmony and Match.com are great! I always seem to have a hard time meeting new people, so if I didn’t have Mr. Cardy, I could totally see myself trying one out!

LOL. I also love reading so I can imagine your HORROR that eharmony wanted to match you up with a total beefhead! I’m glad that you were able to snag Mr. Socks during that free 3 day trial- judging from the fact that he let you stick his head on “the situation” I think he’s a keeper! AND F Stripes and I totally met on Match!

We met on Match.com, too. I didn’t like telling people, either. In fact, my mom didn’t know until about a week before we got engaged that we met online.

He had been on there for a while, and his subscription had actually expired. I had been on for about 2 weeks and sent him a message. He paid for a new month so he could read what I wrote him.

My FH and I met on okcupid. He sent me a cheesy message with links to a bunch of hockey videos. I thought it was cute and funny, fast forward 3 years and we’re engaged :-) We grew up very close by one another, and probably played together on the playground at some point. In that way I feel like we’re not the typical “met online” couple. It is kind of awkward when people ask how we met, though! You always get that look!

My fiance and I met on match.com. We’re kind of the same way, we’re not totally ok with telling people how we met. Family and close friends know, but others we just say “we met among friends” which isn’t a lie, bc the first time we met in person, he met a few of my friends and I at a bar for pizza and drinks. So we did “meet” among friends. :)

I met my FI through Match.com.
He had an account and I used my AIM screenname as my “profile name,” and figured if a guy figures that Lycochristine111 is something more than just a word - well then he would definitely be considered as a potential suitor!
We’ve been together for over 3 years!
All of my friends and coworkers know we met on online… his coworkers do not!

We met on MySpace…totally random and not really like either of us (although I’d tried Match.com). I wouldn’t have it any other way - he’s the best!
