Dressing for the Occasion

June 16th, 2010 @ 2:07 pm by Mrs. Starfish

It’s going to be a busy couple of weeks for the Starfishes! This upcoming weekend we are heading to the Jersey Shore for Shower #1. FMIL Starfish is hosting a bridal shower for us at a beautiful waterfront restaurant. Then Shower #2 is the following week at a cute New England Inn, hosted by the Starfish Bridesmaids and Starfish Mom.

So what does a girl wear to a Jersey Shore shower and a Boston tea party? I’ve looked for weeks for white dresses, I have some crazy idea that I need to wear white to every wedding event. I thought this for our engagement party too, and ended up in silver. Well, after many shopping excursions, I only found one white dress, which I can’t wear for both showers.

So here’s what I’ve come up with. I love them both, but feel like the “rope dress” isn’t bridal enough.

I love the back on this one!

Other than being white, I had one other thing that I wanted from the dress—I have to be able to wear it again! Luckily, I love them both and they are perfect summer dresses that I can wear a lot over the next few months. Can you can guess what dress goes with what shower?

Did you have trouble finding a dress you loved for your shower? Anyone else feel the need to wear white to everything?

Those are both SO cute - I looooove the back on the rope dress! And I know what you mean about feeling like you should wear white to everything! I’m the same way!

I originally felt that same way about white but ended up changing my mind when I decided white wasn’t as re-wearable. Most of the events that I have coming up in the next year or so where I would need a cute dress.. are related to other people’s weddings. Which means white is out! I ended up wearing purple to my shower which is what my bridesmaids wore at the wedding.. and black to my rehearsal dinner. I LOVE the rope dress. I just got a super cute rope dress from Anthropologie.

These are both adorable… and you know, ropes are traditionally used in handfasting ceremonies, which I find very romantic… so the rope dress has some ties to weddings!

You’re smart to think ahead about dresses - I totally forgot to plan ahead for my bridal shower dress and ended up wearing one that was too big and bright pink - simply because it was in my closet and looked “springy.”

Hum, good call!
I ended up wearing an everyday cardigan and jeans to our engagement party, and even though it was super casual, i think that i should have put a bit more effort in. Lesson learned! For showers and what have you I think I will delve into a skirt or perhaps even a dress!

I actually hate wearing white and dont wear dresses that often so buying a white dress for my shower would have been stupid on my part, cause I’d never wear it again. I went with my usual ‘uniform’ of jeans and a cardi, with a fluttery top underneath to dress it up a bit.

I love your rope dress though, so cute and summery.

The rope dress may not be “bridal” but I think it’s definitely adorable! I’m thinking that’ll be for the New England Inn?? What restaurant are you headed to at the shore?
