About Mrs. Socks

For two months after we returned from vacation, I still had this silly thing still on:

It’s Harder Than It Looks to Put a Ring on It! : wedding philadelphia rings Ring St ring stand-in

When I should have had this:

Here’s what happened: We got back to the States and waited. And waited. And a couple of weeks after our return, my ring was made and ready to be set and sent. I was super excited.

But my super excitement turned into super despair (hardcore, inconsolable, earth-shattering despair––like, leave work because I couldn’t stop sobbing despair) when I received a phone call stating that my diamond broke while they were setting it. It’s a very rare thing, but it can happen, especially to princess cut diamonds, I’m told.

And since the jeweler who set (and broke) the diamond did not supply it to us (we got the diamond from another jeweler), they did not cover the diamond and could not replace it.

Cue more despair and inconsolable sobbing.

So it’s an EXCELLENT thing that we insured the diamond under our homeowner’s insurance a mere TWO days before the diamond broke.

So we contacted our insurance company, they had to conduct an investigation, but it was as painless as possible, and we received a check for most of the amount we paid (it did not include a few hundred $$ worth of sales tax).

Then we had to find another diamond. The jeweler who broke the original offered to find us a replacement, but couldn’t find another diamond EXACTLY like what we had. It was either go slightly smaller (.04 carats less) or upgrade and pay more $$.

Mr. Socks, being the incredible and wonderful fiance that he is, said to me, “I basically refuse to get you anything less than what you had. Let’s just pay the extra money.”

Isn’t he wonderful? And super dreamy in this photo?

So we got an upgrade in color for the diamond (it was an F, now it is an E) and paid a little more to offset the cost.

And here it is!!

I might be a little obsessed. A little.

It was a headache to get the ring, but in the end, it was absolutely worth it because I look at it every day and love love love it!

Did you have any ring headaches? Have you insured your ring yet?

I have a princess cut and you’re making me nervous since you said diamond breakage is more prone in princess cuts! YIKES!!!! Thankfully, I do have it insured, but still!!!

Don’t freak!! The diamond is more likely to break when it’s being set in the ring–it’s VERY rare for it to break once it’s already in the setting!

Still, anyone who hasn’t insured theirs yet, it’s a good idea because you just NEVER know! Insuring a ring is super cheap and you can do it on your renter’s or homeowner’s insurance!

did your diamond have a lot of inclusions? Or 1 big inclusion? Inclusions make it more likely to break!

Your ring is absolutely stunning! I love how the band goes around the diamond - so beautiful! I would be obsessed with it too. Good thing you got the insurance - what a great tip to save people a ton of money that could be spent on their dream day!
