Mrs. Thimble's Picture
Mrs. Thimble, NYC/Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Actress & Costume Designer (+ day job) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lawyer & Techie Wiz Engagement Date: August 22, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: The Pearl S. Buck House About Me: I’m an easily inspired over-thinker delighted with the process of designing, building, directing and {dare I say} co-starring in the early-autumn affair I’ve been dreaming up. I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life. We’re both mid-career transition and ready to move back to small-townish TBD, PA in a pre-wedding flurry of all-good life changes.
About Mrs. Thimble

I did it! I decided. Despite my over-analyzing round one shopping aftermath, despite my fear of defining formality, I picked a dress for my ladies. We’re keeping it easy, flowy, and mossy green:

Bridesmaids' Dress Decision! (And a Note on Color Names) : wedding bridesmaid dress philadelphia 2078pj 2078PJ

B2 #2078 in Pure Jade

Wait a tick. You’re confused by my description of this green as “mossy” and B2’s chosen adjective combo “Pure Jade?” Well friends, so am I.

And while I was ready to email all my ladies and pull the trigger on this purchase, this color controversy gave me pause. So I looked up Jade Green in Google images and found the following:

Just as I suspected, Jade is of the Aqua/Turquoise/Sea Green family. It does not have a placecard at our  wedding color palette’s table. Fortunately, the dress is definitely not Jade but rather much closer to a forest or moss green. Unfortunately my mother was temporarily convinced it’s Jade because it’s called Jade and confusedly questioned my choice.

My position: This dress is the most flattering of the bunch, and while it is not as rich a moss green as the runner up Jim Hjelm, it is $100 cheaper (Yeeee!!!):

The pictures above are black and white to prevent any further color confusion. Droid camera compounded with bad dressing room lighting and no flash because it’s a “no pictures” zone yields faded colors that could actually be “jade”. But I assure you, it’s more like the pic up top in person.

What’s with trying to name colors and confusing discerning brides and their mothers? All dress colors should be coded to Pantone colors so we can know what we’re getting! (Dessy knows what I’m talkin’ about.)

As for the whimsy and details I had asked for in a bridesmaid’s dress? The bodice on this B2 bargain is beautifully draped, will be worn with a cardigan, and I plan to add a flower sash a la Mrs. Cowboy Boot’s gown:

sigh…

How did you decide on your bridesmaids’ dresses: Did you compromise anything or try to be a people pleaser? Or did the dress reveal itself as an easy choice?

Oh man, I love it! I’m thinking about cardigans and flower corsages perhaps, so I cannot WAIT to see the final ensemble.

I bought the same exact dresses for my BM’s only in Amethyst. They haven’t come in yet so I’m not sure what the exact color will look like, but hopefully they will be close enough. They look great on all body types too! Great choice :)

This is the bridesmaid dress I ended up going well as well! My bridesmaids come in all different shapes, heights, and bust sizes, and one will be 4 months pregnant, so I was SOOO happy to find a dress that fit them, fit our budget, and fit our style! The bridal consultant told me that Jasmine Coutoure is developing cloth flowers and rosettes that can be made in many of their fabrics for extra add-on–just a thought if you want to play up the floral theme… I’m not sure if they’re available for this dress, but it might not hurt to ask.

I happily chose David’s Bridal “apple,” a deep red, and emailed that color name to my bridesmaids. Two of them are super pale Anglo-Irish girls, and the third is mixed race, with more or less caramel-colored skin. They’re my friends, people. I’ve shopped with them. And yet I found out all three had dreaded going to try anything on, because they all assumed “apple” was green. As I said to them later, “I know some brides want to make sure the bridesmaids don’t look better than they do, but I didn’t want to make you look nauseous!”

Wow, whoever named that dress was sleeping on the job! It’s gorgeous though and I think will look fierce with a belt/sash!

I tried to be a people pleaser and was a complete headache. More so than my own gown! I like the B2 gown and the color!!

We got the same dresses! At a steep discount. In Cranberry :) AND I got flower sashes made for the girls. I am not kidding! Great minds think alike. I am from Philly and got the discount dresses through a woman in the area and flowers custom made by a seller on etsy who just so happens to live in the area too. Message me if you are interested in the info.

It’s so tough to evaluate color choices online because screens can be so different. The dress is gorgeous!

We went with that dress in the Cranberry color (but knee length)! One of my BM’s said it was “the equivalent of the sisterhood of the traveling pants” since it flattered everyone so beautifully, despite their different body types!
