When I left off, Sister Socks and I had both picked out our engagement rings (and matching wedding bands).
Here’s how the proposals went down:
Mr. Socks and I were going on vacation a few weeks after I picked out my ring. I knew we wouldn’t have the ring in time, but we had discussed getting engaged anyway without the ring, since our Europe trip would probably be rife with picture-perfect proposal spots.
*Warning–completely gratuitous vacation photos ahead*
Maybe he would propose on the first day when we got to Switzerland? Perhaps at the top of the hill in Gruyere?

Or maybe later that day in a vineyard in Lavaux?

Or maybe he would pop the question in Geneva by the Jet d’Eau?

The suspense was driving me crazy. On the morning of our third day, we were packing up to leave our hotel in Geneva to travel through Chamonix, France, on our way to Milan and Lake Como. Since I thought we’d be in the car most of the day, I threw on jeans and a purple t-shirt. Mr. Socks looked at me when I got dressed and said, “are you going to wear THAT?”
Well, needless to say, that shocked me! I was too pissed to think of the motive behind him suggesting I might want to wear something nicer (I kept the jeans and threw on a yellow collared shirt).
So we drove out of Geneva and stopped in Chamonix, France for lunch. It was an adorable ski town, but wasn’t too busy since it was early September. We walked around, and decided to take a lift up to the top of Mont Blanc, the tallest mountain in Europe.

When we got all the way up, the views and the altitude were breathtaking. Mr. Socks and I made our way up to one of the platforms, and asked a nice German couple to take our photo, they obliged, and then left the platform.

It was almost time for the last cable car of the evening to go back to Chamonix, and we found ourselves alone at the top of the mountain.
It suddenly occurred to me: This is IT. I could tell by Mr. Socks’ face that he was struggling to find the appropriate words, so I waited patiently. My patience paid off.
He got on one knee and pulled out a stand-in ring. My dad had apparently slipped him an old ring that my mom never wore that would fit me while we waited for my pretty pretty ring to arrive. It was sterling silver with a cloudy white topaz in the center, but I was still blown away.

We exchanged loving words, and I said yes (of course!). We spent the rest of the vacation in engagement bliss!

Three months later, on Christmas Eve in front of both families (Mr. Socks and I were the only ones not there––we were at his family’s), BIL Socks proposed to Sister Socks. It’s amazing all of the love they had around them that evening––I just love these pictures!

Haha I love how everyone on BIL Socks’ side of the family is taking pictures while Momma Socks is snapping pics!
So we were both engaged. And Sister Socks had always wanted a June wedding. I always wanted an October wedding… and well… it just happened.
But my parents are thrilled about adding TWO family members to the Sock clan this year, anyway. They’ve been wonderfully supportive of both of us during our planning process, and since Sister Socks and I are complete opposites in every way, at least we won’t have similar weddings even though they are only four months apart!
Did you get engaged/married at the same time as a sibling? Were you excited about it?
