On Re-purposing

June 18th, 2010 @ 5:47 pm by Mrs. Earrings

I’m a huge fan of using old/pre-used things for brand new purposes. Not that the purposes we have come up for our wedding haven’t already been done before, as I found most of my ideas through reading blogs. But still, you get the idea.

How are we re-purposing/ re-using/ recycling elements to use in our wedding? Well, here is what we have come up with so far:

  • using old mason and sauce jars as vases for the centerpieces and *possibly* lanterns for tealights
  • collecting mismatched dessert plates from thrift shops for our cheesecake buffet (mmm… cheesecake)
  • using scraps of trim and fabric that my mother and I have stashed for ages for use in things like the favors and decorations (ooh, and my garter!)
  • collecting baskets for food and such from thrift shops
  • possibly using old wine bottles for water and sweet tea
  • mismatched tea cups

And I hope we will come up with more. The benefits are threefold: We save money, we are kinder to the environment, and the creative part of coming up with ways to use items or of finding solutions to wedding issues in the most unexpected of places is very gratifying. Win-win, wouldn’t you say?

Anyone have any more re-purposing ideas for weddings?

I’m trying to do the same thing and re-use as much as possible. It’s cost effective and done right it can be oh so cute.

A few things I’ve been thinking of that sound up your ally:

wine bottle lanterns:

And this would be a cute way to label your wine bottles if you use them for water or sweet tea:

I love the idea of repurposing things for weddings. Not only is it very eco-friendly, it always ends up looking so gorgeous!

I love repurposing. I’ve been getting people to collect glass jars for me for our centerpieces.

I have done quite a bit of this!
I made cake stands by using plates and old glasses. I used silicon to attach them to eachother and voila, instant cake stand!
I also found an old “hippie” curtain made of beads, I cut all the strands off and am hanging them over my dance floor.
Lots of other ideas I’m doing too, it feels good to be green!

We’ve been considering using old wine bottles for vases and old wine glasses for candle holders! I love you idea to re-purpose though–it’s such a wonderful way to get creative!

This is great! We did a lot of renting and borrowing, too, which cut down on needing to find new stuff!
