I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.

Jewelry from the Met

June 18th, 2010 @ 4:19 pm by Mrs. Knitting

I (like many other people) love the Met. I think it’s such an incredible museum and if I lived in New York, I’d be there at least once a month, although I’m pretty sure you could go once a day for a year and still find something new every day.

Me being my usual sophisticated and grown up self at the Met:

Anyway, this post isn’t actually about the Met’s collection, but instead their gift shop, or more specifically their jewelry.

I love their jewelry. I love the fact that it’s all related to art or history in some way, and the fact that that most of their stuff is quite affordable (for good quality) is a great bonus!

Here are a few of their pieces I think I should own:

I don’t actually own any of these pieces at the moment and I probably won’t for a while. They are pretty affordable, but when most of my jewelry comes from the St. Lawrence Antique Market and costs under $10, I can’t really afford to splurge on any of these yet. Oh well, it’s something to look forward to…

Where are some of the places you like to look for new jewelry?

Love that first necklace! The summer after my senior year of high school I tried to get an internship at the Met, helping with tours and catalogueing. I was so upset when the program lost funding.

I bought a necklace for a friend’s birthday present last time I was in the Met gift shop, you’re right that it makes for some great shopping.

Whoa… I would never have thought to look at a museum gift shop for jewelry! I live in DC, land of 1,000 museums, maybe I should check them out!

great events

I love the ladys pocket pendant watch. I have not been to The Met in years, but they had a cool bar upstairs overlooking Central Park. Great prices for NY, and an amazing view. Sometimes you need to take a break from the art and have a cocktail!
