Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

I am a photography snob.

There. I said it.

Because of my slight huge obsession with photography, I knew that finding a photographer for our wedding was going to be a huge undertaking. Photography was hands down the number one priority for me - more important than the venue, the food, or the dress. This could be primarily because I have such a love affair with photography, but I think wedding photography is just so important. When the day is over (and I know it will be a complete blur to me), all I will have to remember that day by are my photos. I love that you can look at photos from a wedding, and if they are done right you feel like you were there. You can feel the happiness rolling off the groom as his bride walks towards him, and you can feel the love between them as you see their first kiss.

I want to have photos from our wedding that bring me back to that day, and let me feel all of the emotions all over again.

I knew early on that photography was one thing I was going to have to pay for myself. How did I know this? Well, when I began discussing photographers with my mom, her first comment was “Oh, well Bob at our church has a really nice camera, and he likes to take pictures!!” Yeah. That wasn’t going to cut it. That’s not to say I have anything against friendors (love them!), but photography is important enough to me that I was willing to shell out whatever it costs to get a photographer that I am in love with.

I searched high and low for an affordable photographer that I loved, but I was really struggling with it. I have a very specific style that I like when it comes to wedding photography, and I just wasn’t finding it anywhere. Maybe I’m just too picky, but I was determined to find someone who could deliver exactly what I wanted.

Then, I went to the Austin Bridal Extravaganza (cue angel chorus) with Sister Cardy. From across the room, I saw this adorable little stand with the CUTEST logo I had ever seen in my life. You think I’m exaggerating? Fine. I’ll prove it.

(Source) Seriously. Just look at that and try not to smile. It’s impossible.

So, I immediately dragged Sister Cardy over to their booth and started looking through their sample albums. Stunning. Breathtaking. Amazing. I was in love. While I was at the booth, I started chatting with Melanie (the “She” of She-N-He). I instantly loved her, and I knew that she was going to be my photographer within minutes of meeting her. She is so incredibly sweet, and she is exactly the type of person I want to spend my wedding day with. In light of my status as a poor college student, Melanie even offered to come up with a payment system for me so that I could pay for it monthly rather than having to pay a huge amount of money all at one time. Yeah, she’s that awesome.

I didn’t book them that day - instead I went home and did a little research on their website. Seriously, y’all - I can’t even tell you how much I love their photos. Wanna see?

Do you see why I fell in love with them? Their photos are so real and candid and beautiful! I love that they are so person-focused. Her weddings always have so many photos of people smiling, laughing, and dancing, and I love that! I would love to look back on our photos and be able to see how much everyone enjoyed our wedding. So, as soon as I finished poring over their entire portfolio, I emailed Melanie to set up an appointment to meet with her. Mr. Cardigan and I made a special trip to Austin specifically to meet her, and seriously y’all? WE. LOVE. HER.We have kept in contact with Melanie and her husband Steve over the last few months, and I feel like they’re our friends now. I have absolute faith in them, and I can’t wait to see the amazing photos they take for us!

What is your number one priority for your wedding day?

Our venue and food was our number 1 priority, but photography came in a very close second.
She-n-He’s photos look AMAZING!

I am the EXACT same way. I love photography, and it was my top priority. My mom thought we could get it done for under $1,000 and I almost laughed in her face. Her photographer suggestions all looked like they were taking photos in 1992.

I totally agree with you, photography was my number one priority and I knew right off the bat that I would foot the cost myself so no one could give me a hard time about it. I had been following a certain photographer’s blog for awhile but she was too expensive….I searched all over for affordable and just didn’t find one whose photos I fell in love with. Long story short I told myself there was a reason why I decided to pay for the photographer in the first place and booked the one I loved. Could not be happier about it!

Totally agree with you, the wedding day will come and go and the photos will be what makes the memories truly last! I wrote a similar article about photographers (www.wedding-inspiration.com) and how important it is to”click” (some pun intended) with them.

photography was also my number one priority!! So important to me, I would rather spend less elsewhere to pay for it. I think you wedding album lasts forever, its what youll show your kids, and your grandkids. They’ll laugh at the fashion (that dress is SO 2010!) :-), and youll have beautiful pictures of everyone you love.
Congrats on finding the perfect pohotog!

If my fiance and I had gotten married in Austin like we originally wanted, He-n-She would have been who we went with too! LOVE them!!!

Photography was my absolute #1 priority as well…of course that could be because that’s what I do for a living! I’ve always been a believer that the photos are the rings are the only thing that last longer than one day so they should be special. My photos are the only way I can look back on my wedding day once it’s over so I want pictures I can be proud to show my future kids and grandkids. Besides, if a wedding photographer has crappy photos of her own wedding, it probably wouldn’t look so good huh?

Having a great photographer that knows exactly what you want and specializes in the style you love is SO important! I wish I had realized just how important it was BEFORE my wedding. I learned the hard way and am actually embarrassed by my wedding photos.

Don’t skimp on photography, ladies! You’ll regret it!

photography is definitely not something we are skimping on either…Mr E is a student photographer so he would probably never forgive himself if we didnt have a good photographer! The trick is just fitting it into the budget i guess….

Photography is my #1 too, and I am also the hugest photography snob. I have dismissed photographers based on one photo in their portfolio (I figure, this is the BEST you have, so it better blow me away.) I was a portrait photographer at a mall store a lifetime ago, so I feel like I can tell when people are being super-posed (which I hate) and not having a good time. Also, if it looks like something I would have used as a 17 yr old photog in a 10×10 studio in the mall…you’re out. Haha.

I can’t wait to see your wedding photos!

Photography was huge for us too and thankfully we found someone we LOVE for a very reasonable price. I love people centric photos too–details are nice, but at the end of the day, I want the people that were there captured.
