Mrs. Earrings's Picture
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
About Mrs. Earrings

Yup. And he is awesome. As I have mentioned before, my parents work in Indonesia (with trips back to NZ now and then… currently they have just arrived back in NZ for a 6 month “break”). Dad’s boss manages the part of the organisation that is based in NZ and all the NZers working for them overseas. He is also a good friend of our family.

We were originally going to iPod our ceremony music but my mother thought it would be more “classy” to only do that for the reception. Mr. E and I both love the sound of an acoustic guitar, and it fits the vibe of our wedding well so that was the obvious choice of instrument. We just had to find a musician… and we really don’t have any budget for music at our wedding so this is one that has to be friendored out (is “friendored” a word? It is now).

We thought about each of our “musician friends” as possibilities however most of them live overseas and won’t be able to make it to the wedding *sad sigh*.

But then I had a brain wave—my Dad’s boss is a great guitar player, and plays frequently at church events and organisation conferences. Not only that, but he sings (though we will keep the ceremony music purely instrumental). So a couple weeks back I asked him, and our problem was solved! He was very happy to do it, I just have to tell him what songs we want and he will make them happen. Ahh… why can’t all wedding things happen this easily?

Now I have ceremony songs on my mind… primarily ones by the Beatles. That sounds good to me.

What Beatles’ songs can you think of that would be perfect for the wedding ceremony?

I love acoustic guitars for ceremony music! So pretty! And the Beatles are always a great choice for ceremony music! My vote goes to “Here Comes the Sun” :)

We are using some Beatles songs for our ceremony/wedding in general too. Two of my fiance’s uncles and two of his cousins will be playing guitar and saxophone at the ceremony. For our bridal party entrance they are playing In My Life.

Some other ways the Beatles are being used are as a reading (When I’m 64), we are having the Vitamin String Quartet’s tribute to the Beatles played during the reception and we are recreating the Abbey Road picture with our Best Man and Matron of Honor.

I wanted to walk down the aisle to “Here Comes the Sun,” but our church won’t allow it! :(

We are having a friend play acoustic guitar for our ceremony and he will be playing “here comes the sun” for the seating of the parents & grandparents, “I get by with a little help from my friends” for the bridesmaids & groomsmen, and “All you need is love ” for the recessional :)

I just love acoustic myself. Can’t wait to see some pictures of your dad’s boss and his guitar.

I think “across the universe,” “something,” “michelle,” and “imagine” would be super acoustic!

Our recessional was going to be “Here Comes the Sun” but our church wasn’t too keen on the idea either :(

My bridal party walked down the aisle to With a Little Help from my Friends. I walked down to the acoustic version of Something. My father/daughter dance was Golden Slumbers (he used to sing it to me as a baby).

I’m a fan :)
