Getting My Hair and Makeup Did

June 21st, 2010 @ 12:02 pm by Mrs. Hot Dog

OK. So I had my beauty trials a couple weeks ago. I’d say they were pretty successful, at least in showing me what I do and don’t want on the day of. An old friend of mine from high school (who is also getting married!) did both and has been wonderful to work with. Although I wasn’t completely happy with the first run, she assured me we could go at it again and again ’til we get it right!

Before pics… eww. I can’t believe I’m sending this out into cyberspace…

This is the final product:

Um, hello pasty face. Too much foundation in the wrong color. But, she assured me she would order the foundation in my skin tone. Also, I’m not a huge fan of the gold, nor the falsies (eyelashes). I think they’re just a little much for me. I definitely want a more natural look. More like this…

In fact, I feel pretty stupid for not bringing this photo with me to the trial. Boo.

It did look better outside, in natural lighting. But I’m still thinking it’s not quite right for me.

I do like the hair. I thought it was really cute, and not the traditional updo. You can’t tell from the front, but it is a side-swept ponytail. I will most likely be wearing hair extensions the day of so that it sits on my shoulder.

From the back—this is my fabu hair flower in action. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way it looks from the back! We had to cut the flower down a smidge since it was about as big as my head.

Let me just tell you, this hairstyle had some staying power! It stayed curly for 3 days!! And it even stayed curly after taking a shower (though I had a shower cap on)! Craziness.

BUUUT, looking back, I feel like it may be too curly. I want a more loose, casual look. This style doesn’t scream “loose and casual” to me. It’s pretty, but it may not be right for what I want.

This post makes it sound like I’m unhappy with my experience. I am definitely NOT unhappy! I had a great time with Jordan and I think she is super talented! She has been nothing but nice about all my critiques and we have another appointment scheduled to get things straightened. This time, I WILL bring photos! :)

How did your trials go?

Love, LOVE, LOVE the hair.

The make up… Not natural looking at all. Looks like someone dumped fairy dust on your eyes. Too shimmery. But, you said you were meeting her again, so you can voice your opinion then.

You are adorable! You know, the pasty face looks very similar to the effect that high silica based powder produces on my face. You might want to ask her what type of finishing powder she used- translucent powder can sometimes make this effect, so you might want to use powder with color in it.

Gorgeous!! I’m surprised she didn’t try filling in your eyebrows?

Don’t settle if you’re not happy Hot Dog!! Keep trying I’m sure you will come to a look you both love :) And if not go elsewhere! As someone that’s been doing makeup for YEARS, I can tell you have fantastic features and I myself would looooooove to work my own magic on your face if you were in Chicago!

What a positive influence and message it would send if Bees would post photos of themselves without the obligatory disparaging remark, or god forbid would actually post something positive.

Ladies, you don’t have to say you think you look like crap or eww or gross or I can’t believe I’m posting this when you post a photo of yourself.

@Amber: All I can say is that you’re lucky if you’re one of the few women (that I know of, at least) who feels completely comfortable without their makeup on. Its not like I HATE the way I look. I am completely happy with myself and my body. But it IS a little outside my comfort zone to send a makeup-less image of myself to the world.

Also, I highly doubt (and please, correct me if I’m wrong) that most women reading this have lower self-esteem just because I made one comment (about MYSELF, no less).

I agree that we as the strong women that we are need to promote health and self love. I do not, however, think your comment was warranted or fair.

@Amber: It takes guts to post photos that you might feel are not flattering because, lets be real, when in the seemingly anonymous world of the internet- people can be harsh. It doesn’t happen here on the ‘bee as much as I’ve seen it in other areas. In order to defray some of that anxiety we bloggers may choose to use a little self disparaging humor. I understand the intention of your comment, but wonder if you how you would preface similar photos were you in the same position (photos where you did not feel your most beautiful).

@Miss Hot Dog: Love ya girl!

I love the hair! I think don’t think it looks too super structured, and that’s a good thing! I love the way it frames your face! Good luck on makeup trial #2–it sounds like you’ll go in much more prepared the second time around!

I think the hair looks great. How did they get it to stay curly so long? My hair is stick straight, so I am going to need some of that miracle hold.

Cute hair! This is a perfect reason to have a trial - test and learn and to tell your person what works on you! I really like your inspiration of Becki Newton (is that right?)

Be super careful with the foundation.. I would recommend airbrushing if you decide to go with someone else, or if she offers it. White face was a huge fear for me at my wedding! Its look a lot better in natural light but you want to feel and look beautiful on your big day! Love the hair but I get what your saying you want loose romantic curls.
