Mrs. Jellyfish's Picture
Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot Engagement Date: February 21, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
About Mrs. Jellyfish

I’ve worn glasses for most of my adult life. It actually all started in 5th grade, when I began getting headaches while reading. My optometrist diagnosed me with slight astigmatism, and I got a pair of prescription reading glasses—but I rarely wore glasses until high school. Then, once I got my license, I realized I needed them to see road signs so I wore them while driving, too. And once I got to law school—well, that’s when the glasses became a permanent fixture in my daily life. I rarely leave the house without them:

Wearing glasses the day Mr. Jelly proposed!

For the most part, I don’t mind wearing glasses. I see them as another chance to express myself, and try to get pairs that reflect my sense of style. I like that they can make me appear instantly smarter—and on more than one occasion, have elicited remarks comparing me to Tina Fey (a goddess among mortals, I tell you). But at the same time, glasses can get in the way. They often slide down my nose making me more look more “granny” and less “sexy librarian”. They get smudged a lot. And they don’t always photograph very well.

So, like other four-eyed brides before me, I have to make a decision: to wear glasses on my wedding day, or not to wear glasses on my wedding day? On one hand, I almost feel more “me” when I am wearing glasses. And they’re comfortable—I really, really hate contact lenses and struggle with them every time I decide to wear them (which is rarely). Plus I’ve seen some brides pull off the glasses look very, very well:

On the other hand, my glasses don’t really “go” with my dress. I want people to look at me, not my glasses. I’m also afraid that there will be a glare in the photos. And most importantly, my glasses get smudged every time Mr. Jelly kisses me. Every. single. time. So I guess in the end, my decision is pretty simple: I’ll be sucking it up and wearing contacts on my wedding day. Though I may stash my glasses in my purse for the reception. :)

Other four-eyed brides: will you be wearing your glasses on your wedding day?

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 6 so it was a no brainer that I would wear them on my wedding day. Initially, I was wooried it would look awkward but I ended up looking like the best version on myself. There are pics on my blog mymomentsofwhimsy.blogspot.com
Whatever you decide I’m sure you’ll look fantastic:)

I wear glasses daily in my life too. I decided to wear contacts on my wedding day though. Some of the same reasons as you…photograph better, no glare and plus I feel ‘prettier’ in contacts when it comes to special events. I would go with what you feel most comfortable with…plus you already know that Mr. Jellyfish fell in love w/ a glasses-wearin’ gal anyways!

if you are planning on wearing contacts the day of your wedding then you need to start wearing them 2-3 weeks before. The first day, wearing them for a couple of hours, the next day wear them 3-4 and so on and so forth. Your eyes need to time to adjust to having something stuck on them all day long. This will make the contacts far less irritating on your eyes. As a fellow glasses/contacts wearer, trust me!!

I wear my glasses day to day, but I usually wear contacts when I go “out” or when I’m gonna be wearing sunglasses. I’d ideally like to get LASIK long before I get married so I can be rid of glasses forever! Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, if you’re stressed about having contacts in it may come through in the pictures since you won’t feel natural and comfortable. Maybe you can go with the glasses, but just take them off for some of your posed pics? The other option, is to look into getting low glare anti-reflective lenses put into your frame before your wedding?

I have never worn contacts before and worn glasses since I was 15. I decided to try contacts for the wedding because I feel prettier without my glasses and dont really see myself as a person with glasses, just a person that wears them when I need to. (Even though that really should be all the time) So in the next few weeks I will be going to the eye doctor to get contacts for the very first time! I’m hoping that by giving myself almost 2 months to get used to them I should be fine! I think youll look gorgeous with or without - but I totally understand the dilemma!!

In my high school days, I rocked contacts all.the.time. But now that I sit in front of a computer 10+ hours a day; I wear my glasses 90% of the time and contacts 10%. Although I usually wear contacts when I go out for an event (ie. dinner with friends, weddings, etc.). Even though I wear glasses now waaaay more than my contacts, I chose to wear contacts on wedding day.

Either way, you’ll look awesome! If you do decide to wear glasses, make sure you bring cleaner! In case you shead a tear. ;) I hate looking through smudged lens!!

I am definitely wearing contacts. I only am slightly vision impared so I rarely wear my glasses or contacts. I haven’t even ordered contacts in over a year and just either go without anything or wear my glasses. I want to have full perfect vision though. I had having a stigmatism though.

I don’t wear glasses, but Mr. Cardigan does! I’m so used to seeing him with them, that I think it would be very very weird if he didn’t!

I wear glasses daily too. Like you, I feel prettier without them. I also feel fancier. So I’m going without and stashing them in my bag too.

Contacts all the way! I have big black rimmed glasses, and they are very distinctive. I do not want that to be the focus of my look.

I rarely wore my glasses before, but they are also a fixture for me since law school ;) I hate contacts, but I decided to just fly blind for the wedding. I wasn’t reading or driving that day, so that helped! I don’t wear them ALL the time, though, so I didn’t feel less like me.

I wore glasses on my wedding day, cause without them it wasn’t me. My husband didn’t think I would look like myself without them. Thank goodness they did match my dress perfectly!

As a photographer myself, a (good) photographer will not use flash, and if they do, they will use indirect flash (bounce it off of the ceiling or the back wall or what-have-you). In other words, as long as you didn’t hire Sally Mae with her point-and-click who’s never done a lick of even psuedo-professional photography in her life to do your photos, you shouldn’t have to worry about glare, at least in your official photos. Friends and family’s personal cameras may be a different story. A non-glasses photo of you for reference would help outsiders judge, but I think you look darn cute with them. You also just look darn cute, so I say do whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

My glasses are staying! Whenever anyone asks me about it, I tell them that my blue-framed glasses are my something blue. I hate wearing contacts and I look weird with them, plus I have a dark mole by my nose that my glasses hide. I want to look like me on my wedding day, and that means rockin the frames :-)

You look great in glasses!!! If you’re feeling weird that they won’t go with the dress, get slimmer neutral frames, or perhaps rimmless (?!) I think those are so sleek and sexy. You can also choose to get lenses that photograph easier - and I’ve heard they’re easier to drive at night with too =)

Good luck!!! I sure hope you choose to wear glasses <3

I wore contacts, but than again I rarely wear my glasses always my contacts which I’ve worn them for more than 20 years. I tried to get Lasik but I wasn’t a candidate. Be careful if your lens are Transitions we had to buy my husband an extra pair of glasses so he had a pair tha didn’t turn dark outside for pictures.

I haven’t been able to leave the eye doctor with contacts yet, because I just couldn’t put them in my eyes by myself. I will be attempting to again though because I want to see my FI’s face as I walk down the isle and my glasses don’t go with my dress either. Glad I’m not the only one on this :)
