Find Your Soundtrack

June 22nd, 2010 @ 5:49 pm by Mrs. Lace

No, not for your wedding, not for your first dance, or grand entrance. Find your soundtrack. Make your playlist. Find some music that calms and soothes you because you’re going to need it.

Previously, I wasn’t that stressed. I had worked so hard so that there’d be very little left to do during this last week of the wedding. I had maybe 5 things I needed to do this week - two meetings, write vows, pack for the honeymoon and get a manicure and pedicure. Since yesterday, five more things have popped up, all pressing and needing to be done NOW. So, today I worked on getting those 5 things done and now I still have my original five things to do and one less day to do them.

I tried my best to not be outwardly annoyed. I vented to some of my BMs and then turned on my soundtrack. Luckily, I randomly created this playlist a long time ago to play while I write and journal. It’s called “Mellow Out Miss Lace.” I turned this on as I prepared to do some packing and write vows (not at the same time, of course) and I instantly felt my shoulders un-bury themselves from my ears. Ahhhh… music. So soothing and healing to the soul!

What’s on my playlist?

We have some Coldplay, a lot of Jack Johnson, Lifehouse, John Mayer, Lauryn Hill, Snow Patrol and many, many more. My favorites on here are “Tell Him” by Lauryn Hill, “Monsoon” by Jack Johnson, “Amber” by 311, “Such Great Heights” by Iron and Wine and “Let Go” by Frou Frou (to pump me up, but in a mellow manner).

Up next? A nice hot shower to relax my shoulders and then it’s time to buckle down!

To really chill: “Bluesy” (BB King, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Lee Hooker, a tiny bit Bessie Smith) I feel instantly better when I have this playing in the car on my way home from work

Oooh, I don’t have one, but I should! Music is my lifeline. I have a playlist for the morning-of-getting-ready-with-my-bridesmaids time, but nothing to calm me down when I’m having a bridezilla moment! Great idea!!

For “coming out” music, eh? We’re sticking with a Led Zeppelin classic for us, but have yet to decide about the bridal partay. They’re all coming out en masse (ish) to the same song, most likely.

My “just chill” playlist has Otis Redding, Nada Surf, Air, Bright Eyes and….ironically….Rob Zombie.

@Laylabelle: Ooh I like Air too! It’s kind of trance-y without being overbearing! I’m adding that into my list too.

@emma5w: I felt SO much better after I listened to some music. :) I don’t want everyone to hate me so I’m doing all I can to NOT be a bridezilla. :)

@amariem25: Yay! I LOVE that song. Mr. Lace asked me once what that song meant…and I ignored him. Haha, I have no clue, I just love it.

@Knubbsy-Wubbsy: That’s a good idea. I think I need some cool down music for after work too. Because that combined with road rage and traffic is NOT pretty!

and recently discovered mumford and sons and have really found that i am in a better mood after listening to them. i listen to Enya if I am going for a zen mood, and nickel creek or some Miles Davis for some calm time. I am ALL over the place with my music choices.
