Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.

Winter… in June?

June 22nd, 2010 @ 10:10 am by Mrs. Knitting

I realize it’s summer and that perhaps we do not want to be thinking about winter all that much. However, I am having a winter wedding so I wanted to discuss some of the ways I plan to incorporate the season into our wedding.

Today I’m starting with explaining our overall style and feeling. When I’m trying to briefly describe the style of our wedding, I usually go with “cozy Christmas vintage”. Here’s what I have in my mind when I say that:

To me, images like these scream cozy and family-centered and that’s exactly the feeling I want our wedding to have. I haven’t really worked out yet how exactly we will achieve this, but those are pretty good examples of what I have in mind when I use phrases like “cozy Christmas vintage”.

I have to say that I’ve found it pretty difficult to find a lot of winter wedding images that demonstrate this type of cozy winter feeling. Many of the winter wedding images I’ve found are much more modern and stark. That’s pretty much the opposite of what we want, so those aren’t too helpful for me. I’ve had more luck looking at websites about holiday entertaining like Hostess With the Mostess and Martha Stewart Holidays. I’d love to hear some of your favourites!

Do you have an overall feeling in mind for your wedding? What kinds of images say “winter” to you?

Great ideas! I like the third picture down - it’s a town in Germany called Rothenburg ob der Tauber and they call themselves the Christma Capitol of the World! I’ve spent some time there - really beautiful!

I love that you wrote this blog. I am planning a christmas wedding and I agree with the modern themes. I have had to rethink what a old fashion christmas looks like. I personally have thought about covers of christmas cards and the idea of family. Martha Stewart has been my favorite source.

We are having a casual, family, southern feel to our wedding. I am super excited to put all of my ideas into one coherent theme. I do worry, that I have too many ideas though.

I love the idea of a Christmas wedding. There is so much you can do in terms of decor. I loved the picture of kraft paper wrapped presents you included.

Man I miss christmas so much. It’s winter in Chile right now. You know what that means? SUMMER for christmas. Poo. I can’t wait till we can celebrate christmas in the wintertime!

BTW, Mr. BC always raves about the weihnachtmarkt in germany - it’s their seasonal christmas market. Maybe that could help for inspiration!

Definately check out Ballard Designs! They are a home decorating company, but their holiday ornaments were vintage cozy christmas!

We’re doing more of a winter wonderland feel–snowflakes, royal blue…a silver frosted look. Less vintage and more modern though for our NYE wedding…it felt more appropriate to me for a holiday that is all about looking forward.

I love winter weddings! Our theme was along the same line- cozy, warm, and full of love! I did a post a while back about winter wedding inspiration and also found it hard to find. I’ve actually been meaning to suggest the winter snowangel photo to you simply because I want someone to do it and we forgot! It’s the last photo here http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/08/20/winter-wedding-inspiration-the-festive-celebration/. I can’t WAIT to see your cozy Christmas vintage wedding:)

I’m having a winter wedding too, cozy, snowed in theme. With roaring fireplace and hot toddy’s. My plan is to do the snow angel picture. My photog is on board with it although my fmil thinks I’m nuts! what about using old nutcrackers on the tables those are vintage christmas.

Those circular wreaths with candles!! And maybe some ball ornaments intertwined in there - perhaps as centerpieces?

I know what you mean about winter wedding photos typically going in the modern/stark direction! For the record, though, I also know exactly what you mean about the cozy, love-filled feel of the Christmas season and I think it will be a gorgeous route for your wedding!

All your cozy Christmas pictures remind me of the movie Little Women, with Winona Ryder. I love all your inspiration photos!
