Mrs. Earrings's Picture
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
About Mrs. Earrings

For some obscure reason, I have never envisioned my bridesmaids with bouquets. Instead I want to have something a little different and hopefully save money on flowers at the same time.

I want that “something different” to be a wrist corsage. In the beginning I had grand hopes of creating these myself, and I will still be doing the corsages for the Mums and Grandmums (yes we spell it M-U-M here in Kiwiland, because we rock), but the BM corsages just seemed a bit too much for me to face.

So I browsed Etsy, because of course I can’t stay away from my new addiction. I looked at both hair flowers and corsages because many of the hair flowers can do double duty as corsages.There was so much to choose from. Too much actually. Waaaay too much. But I slowly narrowed it down. The only criteria were that they be ivory, pretty (duh), and within budget.

Here were some of my top faves:

The flower above created by Etsy seller Silver Pencils (who also happens to be Weddingbee’s very own Mrs Espresso!) is what finally snagged me. It is called “The Little Grace Ivory Peony”. Seriously, I think half the time I fall for things is because of their pretty names. Anyway, the lovely Brandi (the brains and brawn behind Silver Pencils) customized an order for me of three of these with grey pearls in the centres instead of the original ivory.

Perfect, right? She also put an alligator clip on the back of each of them so I can easily clip them to a ribbon to go around each BM’s wrist, and then after the wedding they can use them however they like. Brandi was so awesome to work with and I would recommend her products to any other bride looking for something similar. BIY (Buy it Yourself) was definitely the way to go in this case!

Anyone else thinking of not doing the bridesmaid bouquet thing? What are you doing instead?

As a kid, I was in a December wedding where the bridesmaids carried lanterns. I thought it was the coolest thing EVER.

Great choice Earrings, and way to go on those beautiful flowers, Mrs. Espresso! I think it’s awesome your bridesmaids can use them as corsages for the wedding and then turn them into hair flowers later!

I love this look. It’s so unique and gorgeous. I’m also going the no flowers for bridesmaids. I just bought my bridesmaid lanterns today!

What a cute idea! I had my gals carry silver satin flower purses instead of bouquets and they looked great!

I’m doing corsages too! I’m making them from satin & tulle to match the flowers I made for my bouquet. Just finished them this weekend - love!! I ended up making one for myself, too…

@Sarah: @Miss Knitting:
We’re doing lanterns for our BMs too. But, they will also have real flower corsages on their wrists, because I felt like they shouldn’t be without flowers.

I never even thought of bridesmaids not having flowers…my moment just made me think of one of the bees posts about “you can do that?” haha. Those will look great!

How cute! Are they 4″ across? Do you find that is a good size for a wrist corsage?
