About Mrs. Pudding

This is What Planning a Polish Wedding Looks Like... : wedding cake vermont Img 03602 IMG_03602

Dear Hive,

Feast your eyes on the 6 sheet cakes that Mama Pudding and I brought home from our wedding baker yesterday. If you think that 6 sheet cakes, on top of the wedding cake and groom’s cake that FMIL Pudding is baking, is overkill, than you will be shocked to hear that these 6 will join another 10 that Mama P has in her freezer.

So, in total, there will be 18 cakes at our wedding. Of course, only two of these cakes will be the standard, cream cheese frosting kind. The other 16 will be traditional Polish cakes - think cheesecakes, and poppy seed cakes and layered honey cakes. Kind of like this:

Needless to say, the pre-wedding diet is not going so well. Ironically, Mama Pudding is worried that there won’t be enough cake at the wedding.

Is your mom going overboard with wedding preparations?

Are Polish honey cakes like Czech honey cakes? I studied abroad in Prague and ate lots and lots of medovnik dort. They were amazing! I could probably finish a whole one of those if need be, so if those are there, you would need tons!

wow! I really hope you post a photo of all the cakes at some point! How fun. My mom goes over board on almost everything she is involved in. Maybe it’s a mom thing!

I’m with sillykar! How many guests are you having? And also, please let me know if you anyone cancels and you need 1-2 more guests. I’m guessing it would take me about a day from Philly with you know, packing a dress (a roomy one!) and driving up… :)

Oh wow!!! I hope you get to taste at least one of the flavors :) Or have a piece of each flavor saved for when you come home after the honeymoon?

My mom is making sugar cookies for each guest and will ice them to look like sunflowers and little pickup trucks (FI wanted a “truck” somewhere in the wedding, I fulfilled that request!) and they will be adorable. I think she is crazy to ice them all with detail but look forward to seeing them.

hehe! My mom is having a blast planning my shower with a bridesmaid of mine. She totally can’t keep a secret either- she just HAD to show me the heart shaped cupcake tin she found. :) I’m thinking that all that cake looks about right for a big Polish wedding :) I bet the Vodka stash is also large (judging from my polish family) It’s getting so close… yay!

pahaha we had 120 dozen cookies and my mom thought it wasn’t enough for our wedding either. I guess Polish women have the same portion problem that Italian women have :)
