Mrs. Pencils's Picture
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MD Age and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non Profit Engagement Date: July 26, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Morningside Inn About Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
About Mrs. Pencils

During dinner, Mr. Pencils and I ate as quickly as possible (but we DID eat—our coordinator Heather had saved us some food from the cocktail hour and I DEVOURED the dumplings and mini quiches AND she brought us something from all of the buffet stations too—SO much food!) and then we got up to greet as many guests as we could.

This is the part of the night where I began to feel rushed and feel the missing twenty minutes from the ceremony going long. We didn’t get to speak with any of our family (luckily, we had at the rehearsal dinner) or to three tables that held the majority of our friends not in the bridal party. I felt incredible remorse about this and dwelled on it the entire morning after our wedding, until Mr. P told me that our family and friends love us and understand—and he was right. Though I wish I could have had more time with everyone, it’s a fast five hours from ceremony to reception to end.

Luckily, I did get to introduce Mr. P to my two saviors at work. There are a few women I work with that literally keep me sane despite our 60, 70, 80 hour work weeks and multiple deadlines and insanity. It was like one family finally meeting the other.

As dinner ended, guests moved downstairs for some dancing. As we talked with just a few more people, our guests milled around, went on the porch area, signed our guest book/post cards, and indulged in the chocolate fountain.

All too quickly, it time for our first dance. Like many bees before me, I’ve embedded our wedding song, by Jakob Dylan for you to enjoy as you see the photos.

As the music began, Mr. Pencils led me to the floor.

Our five dance classes came in handy. We felt a bit more prepared for the attention than we would have if we had tried to wing it. We even showed off a bit of our moves.

Mainly, though, we took in the moment.

Mr. Pencils kept making me laugh, though.

We had learned the proper way to dip in dance class. We wowed the crowd, I must say.

And he continued to make me laugh…

HARD!

We were glad we had chosen a relatively short song and soon it was over. We kissed…

And Mr. P passed me off to my father. We danced to “What a Wonderful World”, but Rod Stewart’s version. My dad loves that guy. :)

We talked about how happy we both were and he twirled me a few times.

I didn’t know it at the time, but my dad didn’t feel well at all that day. He had felt nauseous a bit earlier, but thought it was a migraine coming on. I found out when I got back from our honeymoon that he actually had developed symptoms of diverticulitis and went to the ER a few days later. It just shows what a trooper and what a giver my father is, that he didn’t really let on or show his pain that night.

About two thirds through the song, he passed me back to Mr. Pencils in a sweet gesture of affection.

This time we pulled off the dip quite well.

And then it was Mr. Pencils’ turn with his mother. They graced the floor accompanied by Rascal Flatts’ “My Wish”.

I enjoyed watching Mr. P with his mom; he loves her so much.

Then they welcomed all the mothers and sons to the floor, and MIL Pencils got to dance with her other son.

And I got to dance with my new brother Scott too!

But the sappy stuff couldn’t last forever… it was time to PARTAY!

Awh so fun! We are thinking about taking some dance lessons. Was it a choreographed dance or you just learn some moves and went with it?

Hope your dad is okay! How did it turn out? Everything fine? :o

I did the same thing Miss P!! It seems when it’s your own wedding, you tend to skip over the people you love the most, feeling obliged to hug folks you never see!!

Pencils, given what I know of your job, I have often been mystified about how you managed to do it and plan a wedding and blog at the same time, so it was so funny that you showed off your work saviors!

Awww your first dance song is so sweet…love it! I’m jealous that you guys had a few spins and dips in your dancing adventures - we were so nervous about being in front of so many people that we didn’t do it! Wussies!

Did you mean diverticulitis? If so, my mom came down with that on my graduation day and had to go to the ER.
