I woke up on March 27th at 7:00 AM, quietly, so as not to disturb my sister, and snuck into the living room of my suite. The sun was beaming through the curtains and filling the room with perfect light. It was my wedding day.
I met everyone in the hotel lobby and we started the short, 2 block walk to Looks Hair Design. It was chilly, about 40 degrees, but I was in flip flops soaking up the gorgeous sunshine! Once at Looks, I realized that the salon’s manager Anita had come in on her day off to make sure that everything went smoothly for us - it was seriously the sweetest gesture.
Since we were on a strict timeline, we got started right away!
My hairstyling began. Two trials deep into the process, and my hair still wasn’t shaping up to look the way I wanted. I was going for this. At the time I was a little bummed, but I didn’t let it get me down .
Hair or no hair, I got to marry the man I loved in a few short hours.
We ate lots of goodies - above are some lovely friends as well as Sister Cheeseburger and Burger’s fabulous Mom.
Aren’t my friends and family gorgeous? Hence the title of this post - they were already pretty, the salon just made them even prettier!
After the first round of hairstyles were complete, some of the girls moved on to makeup.
And others grabbed some food if they hadn’t already!
My hair was completed at this time, and I really didn’t like it. Originally, I had figured the curls I was longing for just couldn’t be achieved, but looking around the room everyone seemed to have the curls I wanted! Hmm. I asked the girl who did my mom’s hair how she achieved the curls my mom had (I was really just curious), and, sensing a twinge of disappointment, she ushered me into her chair and started to re-work my curls.
I kept apologizing over and over to everyone for messing up the schedule and also because I felt so rude that my hair was being re-done in front of my original stylist. Everyone at Looks was so, so supportive, and constantly reassured me that everything was perfectly fine. My second stylist softened the curls the best she could with the time she had, and even though I didn’t end up with the exact hair that I wanted, I love the way my hair ended up looking with my veil!
After my hair was finished, I jumped into the makeup chair and Jenn, my MUA, worked her magic - and quickly too! After it was all said and done, I felt absolutely beautiful and ridiculously excited!
I couldn’t wait to get back to the hotel and get into Audrey!
Cheeseburger Tip: if you’re not loving your hair after your first trial, have another one. I was reluctant to have a second trial because of the added expense, but ultimately I needed some kind of reassurance. What I should have done was speak to the manager after the second trial (maybe even the first one) and request a new stylist, but I was so scared of seeming like a diva bride throughout my planning process. Don’t be afraid to speak up - it’s your only wedding day, and you’re paying for a service, after all!
