Mrs. Argyle's Picture
Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot Engagement Date: February 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.

Where Shall We Wed?

June 24th, 2010 @ 5:39 pm by Mrs. Argyle

Forgive me. I’m backtracking here. As I never really “formally” shared our wedding ceremony location, or our reason behind choosing it.

The day we got engaged I already knew where we were going to have our ceremony. I wasn’t one of those brides who had her wedding planned before the engagement. In fact, I was quite the opposite - I pretty much never thought about it, OTHER than a ceremony location.

I’m not a religious person, I did not attend church as a child, and although I attended a private, Catholic university for college, religion was honestly something that never came up. It was for that very reason, I knew I did not want to get married in a church (but trust me, I LOVE church weddings). So, what was the obvious choice? This gorgeous, greenhouse of a structure:

That art-deco beauty in the photo above is The Jewel Box in Forest Park. It is truly a historical landmark in St. Louis - built in 1936, and was restored to its glory in the early 1990s. And, while it may be an extremely popular location for weddings in town, there is no denying that it’s gorgeous. The amount of natural light that pours in is unbelievable (and a photographer’s dream).

One of my very own bridesmaids (KD) wed here just this past March. And, while it was chilly and rainy on her wedding day, you were none the wiser while sitting inside for the ceremony (that’s me in the purple cardigan along the left side of the aisle).

And, the area around the Jewel Box is the perfect backdrop for some spectacular photos - not to mention it is located inside Forest Park (which happens to be over 50% larger than Central Park - which a lot of people don’t know).

How did you end up picking your ceremony location? Was it an easy or tough decision?

Your location is beautiful! Congrats! =)

Picking out the location to wed was easy for me because I’m LDS and was planning to be married in the temple. The HARDEST location for me was the reception. A lot of LDS receptions are held in the church gym - personally, I did not want my reception there. It always looks “trashy” to me and I didn’t want the gym to class with my style. It took al ot of thought and research before I decided to have my reception at a beautiful local park in town. Everything turned out beautifully and I couldn’t have been happier!

Oh wow–gorgeous location!! :)

Finding our location was very hard. If I had a bigger budget and could have done it—a wedding, during leaf peeping near Aspen or Vail or something was ideal. Pfft, and never gonna happen. But I still wanted that “Colorado lodge” feel to it. I actually found out about the place here on WB in the local section suggested by a gal. I love it, it’s intimate, beautiful grounds and I could bring in any caterer and all our own alcohol—score!

I love the Jewel Box, I’ve been to 2 weddings there!!! Excellent choice. For me it came down to money, the place I wanted was ridiculous on price, but our second choice is just as beautiful and has a lot of significance to him as its his college’s chapel.

That place is beautiful!! i chose my ceremony/reception venue because it was close to my house and i had been there before, but the room i chose for the ceremony was because of the beautiful domed ceiling. it was the most beautiful room i had ever seen

gaaaahhh I’m agog with with wonder and awe!! Srsly your venue is to die for!!! Well done St. Louis and Argyle :)
Our venue choice ended up being easier than expected, but I made it harder by trying to please everyone and looking at more venues than I needed to.

The Jewel Box is definitely an awesome venue for weddings! I definitely considered it, but in the end my childhood church in St. Charles won out :)

Can’t wait to see pics though!

I’m in Illinois right now and saw a commercial for St Louis and saw your venue and thought that it looked familiar! I’t absolutely gorgeous!

That place is beautiful and reminds me a little of where I will be getting married (Marjorie Mcneely Conservatory). Like you I also wasn’t one of those that had everything planned as a little girl. I just knew where I wanted the ceremony. Glad I am not alone.

Great spot! I loved our venue as soon as we walked in (it was our first one, and only one of two visited), and I knew we had to get married there! So, easy!
