My Dress, the Big Reveal!

June 24th, 2010 @ 3:12 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

My Dress, the Big Reveal! : wedding austin wedding dress 16 1

Okay. Now that he’s out of here, let’s continue!

So, like I mentioned before, I visited a few more bridal stores with Mom Cardigan up in College Station, but I don’t have the photos from that trip. I really didn’t like any of the ones that I tried on, though, so it’s no big deal. As I was trying on all of these dresses at the other bridal stores, I kept comparing them to the David’s Bridal dress that I loved. I couldn’t get it out of my head and NOTHING could measure up. And to me, that’s how I knew it was the one.

I’ll be honest: I didn’t cry when I tried it on. Neither did my mom, or my sister. In fact, my mom kind of just shrugged and went “Oh, it’s pretty.” But that’s just my mom. She doesn’t get particularly emotional about these things, and that’s okay. The only reason I knew she didn’t hate the dress was that she was willing to pull out her checkbook and pay for it. So, if there’s anyone out there who didn’t get the butterfly feeling in your stomach, and didn’t shed tears of joy at finding the dress, and who couldn’t decode exactly what your mother was thinking… you are not alone. And it’s okay. I’m happy with my dress, and every time I look at it, it makes me smile. No butterflies… no tears… but smiles. And that’s all I really need, right?

Anyways, I’ll stop babbling and show you all what you really want to see:

My Dress, the Big Reveal! : wedding austin wedding dress 25 2

This, my friends, is the dress that I visited almost daily on the David’s Bridal website. It’s the one that I was telling people was my dress before I even tried it on. The other dresses never really had a chance. I was sold from the first time I saw it.

As you can see, it needs some serious alterations, ’cause I’m about a foot too short for it, and it’s seriously big in the hips/waist. But that’s okay. I am in lurve.

And that’s my slightly boring and anti-climatic dress story! It is currently sitting in my old closet at my parents’ house awaiting alterations. I can’t wait to see what it looks like once it actually FITS me!

Did you cry when you chose “the dress”?

I didn’t cry..but I might when I get to try it on in my size….I liked the dress a lot, but it wasn’t the cry moment I had hoped for (mostly I was frustrated because I had to imagine the fit since it was 5 sizes too small) Momma did cry though! She could tell it was perfect and that it was my dress….I get to try her on this weekend though and am hoping for the tears of joy.

I was actually shocked that I did cry a little when I found my dress. I am normally not the “cry during happy moments” kind of girl, but a wave of emotion hit me when I looked in the mirror, it felt so real, and then my mom started crying and then I was screwed.

Don’t worry - I didn’t cry either, and haven’t for either of my two fittings. I DO (no pun intended!), however, smile a lot when I have it on and do a lot of mirror-admiring….which is definitely a good thing! My random cry moment? Picking out my FI’s wedding ring. The tears are lurking, don’t worry…LOL

It looks beautiful. When I got mine, I didn’t cry, but I just knew. When it (a sample) was altered down, I decided I never wanted to take it off! It put me in a great mood the rest of the day.

On an unrelated note, your Aggie/Austin dichotomy is hilarious. FMIL and FFIL Taco hook-em, horns at every turn.

AHHH that looks FANTASTIC on you!!! Definitely the right choice! Will you be wearing a veil?

I didn’t get weepy when I found my dress either. I just kinda looked at myself and said “yeah, I think I could get married in this.”

Didn’t cry either! Sometimes when you know you just know! Love the dress. Very similar to mine so I’m bias!

No crying, or butterflies or overwhelming emotions from me either. It was by far my favorite dress I tried on, so I had no hesitation about buying it, even if I didn’t have a “the one” moment.

I actually cried because I hated my dress (I bought it on the internet and I was stuck with it - haha). Sometimes I get so irritated with the women on those Say Yes to the Dress-type shows who get all weepy and their mom and friends burst into tears shouting “That’s the one!” and I feel like I missed something important because I didn’t have that. So glad to hear from others that the heavens didn’t part and the angels didn’t sing for them too.
;-)

Gorgeous dress!

I didn’t cry and to be honest I never understood the crying thing with brides. No offense to anybody, but I just don’t get how women get so worked up over a dress. I went in, had a good time trying them on, had 5 I looked great in, narrowed it down to two then picked one and I was done.

Oooo so pretty! Nope I did not cry when I found the dress. My mom and sister held each other and weeped a little. I just dreamily smiled at myself in the mirror and though”Oh yeah, this is the one!”

I rarely cry at events in life, but for some reason every time I imagine myself walking down the aisle and seeing my FI’s face light up (since I refuse to let him see the dress before the aisle walk), I start to get a little emotional. I SERIOUSLY hope that passes because I do NOT want to cry at my own wedding!
