David’s Bridal

June 25th, 2010 @ 3:27 pm by Mrs. Pashmina

On a complete whim I stopped off at David’s Bridal in New Jersey. It is in the same shopping center as A.C. Moore (where I was suppose to go) and I figured, “Why not just take a look at what they have to offer!? Why haven’t I even considered them yet?” Well, I sort of know why. I am a bit of a no-Kmart, no-Walmart type of gal, and to me, David’s Bridal is a bit in that category.

The pros and cons about David’s Bridal are the same for all those big megastores - they fit lots of girls, so there is something for everyone but at the same time it can come off as generic and cheap. But this was my feeling going into the store, coming out I have to say I was pretty impressed with what they had to offer. The styles were less prom queen / early ’90s / super shiny than what I had imagined.

yuppers….I actually went there in an attempt to find wide shoes and was surprised that they had a decent selection.

I bought my dress at David’s Bridal, and I don’t think it looks cheap or tacky or standard in any way - I didn’t have high expectations, but I was really blown away by the dresses there. The last one, with the high back, is so pretty!

Actually going through the tug of war right now. David’s Bridal or no David’s Bridal? I may end up giving it a shot.

Your wild card is my dress! I too walked into David’s with low expectations and I was blown away. I’m so happy with my dress and the store!

At first I didn’t want to go to DB because I knew if I told people where I got the dress they’d have the same opinion. My first time there stunk, the associate who helped me was an idiot. My second time was amazing though and I had a great time. The dresses are getting better than even a few years ago and I think the new line for Fall is so great! I wish girls wouldn’t discount it just because it’s the lower end spot (unless they only want to look at couture then they need to go elsewhere for sure) because there really are some great dresses there! Just like at all places, not all the dresses are amazing but there are a lot that are! If you want a great look for less then at least give it a try.

I never thought of David’s Bridal as a cheap megastore type place. But when I went there looking for dresses I didn’t like how some of their fabrics felt against my skin. A

The wildcard looks REALLY good on you! I had a terrible experience partially because of that dress…my consultant forced me to try it on, just to display it for another consultant there who had never seen it on anyone before and as I suspected it looked terrible on me…

My vote is for chiffon flower and asymmetrical wrap- it is very slenderizing (is that a word?) on you!

I think the grecian and the wildcard are really flattering on your frame. Beautiful!

You look so pretty in all of those!

It wasn’t the quality or selection about David’s Bridal that got me, it was the less than nice/pushy sales staff that turned me off. Glad to see it sounds like you had a good experience though!

My sale assistant at David’s Bridal was wonderful and I got a dress that made me happy for a good price. It’s actually your wild card dress.

I will admit that I get a bit of a jolt when I read that people consider the store tacky or it is perceived as less than ideal.

It worked for me and if it doesn’t for others I say to each her own.

The third one is my fav! Glad you kept an open mind on David’s. But keep looking. Your expression in these photos don’t look like you’re too thrilled. :) I think too many girls assume David’s is the only place they can go/afford but that’s really not true. A lot of boutiques have reasonable prices and it’s not worth it to settle on a dress you don’t love-love. (Speaking from personal experience.) David’s does so much advertising and they’re EVERYWHERE so they get a lot of business but I’d encourage all brides to shop around. NOTE: I’m not trying to knock David’s or those who purchase there, rather just trying to encourage the “open mind” philosophy for all!!

To be honest, I’m underwhelmed except for that 3rd dress. And I have been oogling some David’s Bridal dresses too! Interesting to hear you had a positive experience. I am gonna go when I get back to America, although I am more a fan of BCBG as a budget option. I think it is great that these options exist for those of us that don’t have a budget for designer, though.

David’s has SUCH a bad rep, because they’re essentially the only bigbox chain in weddings. But really, I think they do a great job, staying up to date with trends, and affiliating themselves with some great designers (Cassini!) .. If it weren’ for David’s - imagine the thousands of brides who wouldn’t have the budget for even remotely this kind of glamour in a dress. So girl, it’s great you found out for yourself! And does this now mean, you’ll give Walmart a chance?! They have such fun buys! =] Oh, and YES YES YES, that high-collar dress .. looks amazing on you!

My Bridemaids got their dresses at DB as well as my flower girls and I have to say, the service is horrible! We ran into so many problems in the process of ordering the dresses and picking them up. The dresses are beautiful so I don’t regret getting them, I just wish I knew ahead of time the hassle that going with them meant. (To be fair, I don’t know if this was a store specific issue or a chain issue)

I looooove that last dress on you! Amazing!
And I’ve had an amazing experience at DB. I don’t know why everyone thinks so bad of it.
