Being Emotionally Detached…

June 25th, 2010 @ 3:51 pm by Mrs. Knitting

… from the weather. As much as I love Toronto I have to admit we don’t always have the best weather. I have no idea how a Toronto summer bride could stand the stress of having an outdoor wedding here as we have gotten so much rain the past two summers.

However, as a winter bride in Canada you’d think I’d be all set to have a gorgeous super snowy wedding.

For example:

Unfortunately, that’s not something I can count on. Last winter we had something like two snow falls and I’m pretty sure each had completely melted by the next day. It’s much more likely I will have zero snow and lots of rain. It doesn’t usually rain too much in the winter, but since I scheduled my wedding then I’m sure it will be nonstop rain all of December.

However, instead of spending any time worrying about what the weather will be like I’ve decided to be emotionally detached from the weather. I’m preparing myself by assuming and planning for the worst. This includes grey skies, rain, and cold, but not cold enough to snow. I already know that lovely outdoor photos of us frolicking in snow aren’t going to happen, and not just because Mr. Knitting isn’t much of a frolicker!

To be honest, this is complete necessity for me because I’m a major worrier. I would probably spend the two weeks leading up to my wedding glued to the weather forecast and probably in tears every time it took a turn for the worse. Not worth it. I’m just going to plan for the worst and I’m quite excited to take lots of pictures involving my beloved (that’s right, beloved) Wellies and umbrellas.

I spent 1.5 years stressing over the weather so I totally know where you are coming from!! The weather forecast estimated 40% chance of thunderstorms on my wedding day, but it was sunny all day! :)

A good photographer will make the best of a bad weather day. If he’s familiar with the area he’ll know where to take you for some fun pics like the ones you’ve posted. Don’t let it rain on your parade - pun intended!

aaah i know what u mean. Im stressing about the weather for our day in a big way. But when i think about it too much I just have to tell myself: in the end we wil be married whatever the weather and that is all that matters, even if the guests have to hav umbrellas and we have to scramble for a back up plan. :)

Ha–I’ve been taking the same approach. December wedding in Seattle=rain. Snow would actually be a big problem here because everyone is afraid to drive in it, public transit shuts down, etc even though it would be so beautiful. While it’d be nice to have a sunny day and take sunny snowy pictures…it’s just unlikely. So bad weather plans it is–pictures in the (beautiful, fireplace appointed) hotel lobby and everything indoors. But that’s okay, because our weddings will be cozy!

@Baileyh: Haha that’s too funny. There’s got to be a few Texas brides with a similar problem…

Good for you! Weather is so stressful, so it’s great that you’ve decided early on not to let it get to you!

Two weeks before our wedding we had torrential downpours and I was freaked…it became ‘if only it doesn’t rain, I’ll be happy’, but luckily it was super hot and sunny on our wedding day!

Great inspiration just in case the weather doesn’t turn out so wonderfully! Good for you for taking a positive stand on it–there’s nothing you can do about it either way!

I’m the same way with weather for us - Texas weather is so fickle, you never can know what to expect!

Argh I wish I knew where I saw that gorgeous picture of a bride and groom in the rain! It was amazing, with the couple doing a Hollywood kiss on the shiny pavement. Trust me, if it rains you have nothing to worry about!
Some of the best photo’s I’ve seen involve rain on a wedding day.
