Bag-Zilla

June 25th, 2010 @ 8:43 am by Mrs. Socks

Since we’re getting married in the fall, and we have an oh-so-original color palate of… wait for it… fall colors… I decided on making yellow the color of most of our accents. My shoes will be yellow, my BM’s shoes will be yellow, our bouquets will be yellow. So what will go with all that yellow once the reception picks up and my bouquet is set down?

The Kate Spade Preston Hollow Constantine Clutch in a sunny yellow.

I had been eyeing this sucker on Bag Borrow or Steal for quite some time, but for $175, it was too much to spend on a tiny handbag.

Granted, it was better than the $350 for which it originally retailed, but still a bit too much for me. I found a good deal on this clutch in green on eBay, but green wouldn’t work!

And then… one day… I went back on Bag Borrow or Steal to gaze longingly once more, when I noticed something. It was only $85!!! Ahhh!!! I put it in my cart immediately!

Well… it’s HERE!!! I was so excited when I saw the box:

And opened it…

And slipped open the tissue paper…

And saw the Kate Spade dust bag…

And then the lovely, wonderful clutch…

But there’s only one problem…

It’s larger than expected. Much larger.

Don’t get me wrong…it’s still very cute!

But is it too big? For a relative size reference, here it is against a very standard sized bottle of wine…and Wrigley’s face…

It’s pretty big, but it’s also very pretty! I guess if my arm gets tired while carrying (lugging) it around, I’ll just put it down!

Did you make any purchases online that surprised you when you got them?

Just to let you know, sometimes katespade clearance gets an additional reduction of 25% and free shipping. So if the purse goes on clearance it could be yours to have!! Personally, I love the clutch!! Some clutches are just so small I don’t see what the point is!!

Wow, that is big! It’s very (VERY VERY) cute, though! I think it will be fine, because you won’t really need to carry around a clutch all night, so if you get tired of carrying it you can just set it down somewhere.

I’ve been running into surprises with all of the shoes I’ve ordered online. Fortunately, 6pm.com and Zappos have very quick refund policies, but man, I’m getting sick of disappointment in my mailbox!

LOL! It’s so hard to buy bags online. they are NEVER the size you picture them - even if you check the measurements. That’s huge! But so cute. It’s going to look great (and, I guess it’ll hold a lot of little necessities for you too).

It is pretty big, but think of all the wonderful-ness you could store in it for the day! I say hang on to it. Even if it were smaller, would you really be carrying it around all night?!

I do love it, but it is big. You could always draft your MOH to carry it. They are our slakies, right? hehe, jk.

Well, I had a good surprise yesterday. I bought McGroom a vest, tie, and hankie online because he really wanted to match my fuschia shoes. It came in and it’s perfect, like “oh my gosh, I can’t believe it!” perfect. Exciting!

It is so cute! I wouldn’t even worry about the size. You probably won’t carry it too long and the boldness of it will make for great pictures.

It’s adorable! I had a similar experience - I love a quote from Sense and Sensibility and found a seller on etsy who makes pillows and one of them had this quote on it! I thought it would be perfect as a ring pillow and it was less than 10 dollars so I bought it happily and when I got it it was about the size of the palm of my hand…sooo still love the pillow but it wasn’t used in the wedding…luckily I had a backup!

Wow, yeah, I don’t typically associate “clutch” with “bigger than your head.” It reminds me of some bowls I once had to get for work. Had to have them right away! Right now! Rush shipping! Run run run! And they were about eight times the size of what we needed/expected. Oops.

I think that is a totally cute clutch! So what if it’s a little big, that just means you’ll have more room for your lipstick, phone, hair brush, camera…. ;)
