Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot Engagement Date: February 21, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). About Mrs. Jellyfish

Yes, dear readers. I designed our Welcome Dinner/Farewell Brunch invitation insert all by myself. And by “designed”, I mean stole an idea straight out of Mindy Weiss’ amazing book The Wedding Book: The Big Book for Your Big Day (aka the best wedding book ever. Ever.) Here is the page I got the idea from:

Look Ma, I Designed It Myself! : wedding diy invitations pleasanton rehearsal stationery 11 1

Photo taken by me, buy the book here.

Since I have zero computer design experience, I was at a loss on how to even begin to design this. I ended up just using my good old frienemy, Microsoft Word. And I have to say, I’m pretty pleased with the result! Are you ready to see the fruits of my labor?

Brace yourselves, people.

And please, don’t laugh.

Look Ma, I Designed It Myself! : wedding diy invitations pleasanton rehearsal stationery 2 2

On my ‘puter screen.

Look Ma, I Designed It Myself! : wedding diy invitations pleasanton rehearsal stationery 3 3

And the finished product! I printed them onto ivory cardstock, and they will be tucked inside next to our main invitations. Not too shabby, eh?

The reverse side of our Welcome Dinner/Farewell Brunch invites will feature a wedding map. That, my friends, I did get some help with. But more on that later.

Did you design any wedding-related stuff on your computer? What program did you use?

They look great! And I’m right there with you - if I need to design anything, my first stop is either Word or PowerPoint!

I’m all about Word and PowerPoint. We did our entire invitation suite in Word and I think they came out pretty good! Oh, and I love the corner punch too!

@heather25: It’s a Fiskars Squeeze Punch and I got it at JoAnn’s. Looks like this http://www2.fiskars.com/Products/Crafting/Punches/Squeeze-Punches

I really like that! We are also having a welcome dinner and a breakfast the morning after so this layout would be perfect! While I’m also use MS Office for whatever I work up–Photoshop and Illustrator are too expensive(!)–I prefer MS Publisher…I <3 it!

Is your printer a regular printer that rolls the paper through? If so, doesn’t that bend the card stock or does it come out ok? That’s a fear of mine with my sort-of DIY invitations, and I’m having them printed by a professional graphic artist/printer.

@March2011BrideLA: Hm I’m not sure, I just used a laser printer at school. It’s one of those big huge ones.

I’m also limited to MS word! I used it to design our programs, and am also pretty proud of the results!

I’m supposed to make invites for the rehearsal dinner too! Oh no! Guess that’s not happening.

Yours look great though. Love the punched corners.

Great job! And I think I like the look of yours better than the book’s design!
