As we were coming back from the salon, the guys had begun the process of getting ready.
At some point, the gift I had gotten for Burger made it up to his suite, and luckily our photographer was there to capture him opening it!
I had been thinking about what to get Burger since we got engaged. He’s a guy that doesn’t wear any jewelry, and he already has a nice watch. Electronics were tempting, but I really wanted the gift to last a long time (a lifetime would be great, but I was being realistic).
I wrote the card a few days in advance, when I had a lot of time and a clear head to put all of my thoughts and feelings down on paper. I wrote something really profound like, “I love you. I’m so, so, so lucky that you have chosen to love me. Thank you for dealing with my incessant craziness. I truly cannot wait to be your wife and have your babies.”
The boys looked on in anxious anticipation (kidding, they were all just tired and hung over).
It’s a box of golf balls! And a note.
The golf balls were a placeholder for the set of irons he had waiting for him back home. I know that golf clubs aren’t exactly the most unique or thoughtful gift, but Burger loves to play, and as we approach grown-up-dom, I figured that big-boy clubs would come in handy. He agreed.
Downstairs in my suite, I was relaxing, spending time with my mom and sister, and waiting for all of my girls to arrive when there was a knock on the door. It was our amazing florist - Stephanie of Woodrings - with some gorgeous red roses, a card, and a pretty purple bag.
I love getting flowers. And cards. Presents are good too. I don’t get any of these things outside of major holidays, and I was overwhelmed that Burger had gone so above and beyond. I know that shouldn’t be what makes me feel special, but it does, so sue me.
Wanna see pure happiness?
That’s my super-duper-really-happy smile. It was in full effect all day.
How about complete shock?
It was an absolutely stunning purple amethyst ring. No seriously, it stunned me. I couldn’t try it on fast enough.
And you know what? I showed it off.
Burger has some seriously ring-buying talent. I had mentioned a year or so ago that I loved cocktail-style gemstone rings, and apparently he was listening! He ultimately settled on purple amethyst because purple is my favorite color, and also because it “matched” our wedding - double win!
Even if gifts to one another hadn’t been in the budget, a sweet and simple card goes a long, long way. Burger had me beaming from his words alone, and words are free, my friends. Which brings me to this -
Cheeseburger Tip:
Take some time - real time - to write down your thoughts and emotions toward your future spouse. Tell them why you love them. Tell them why you want to marry them. Things may get busy on wedding weekend, so consider doing this a few days in advance. Everyone loves to know that they’re loved, especially in the hours before the vows.
