About Mrs. Seashell

THIRY

June 28th, 2010 @ 1:18 pm by Mrs. Seashell

My life recently became a wedding movie cliche.

You know the scene where the bride is stuffing the very last invitation into the very last envelope and notices a word is spelled wrong? Or the time is incorrect? Or the date is mistaken? She freaks out and calls her invitation designer in a desperate panic begging for a reprint. My story isn’t quite that dramatic, but our wedding invitations had a major set back last week. At 11:23 PM Saturday night I received this email from our invitation designer as she was assembling the invites:

Hi Miss Seashell,

I am sorry to report this news to you, but I was just looking over the invitation and there is a spelling error that was apparently overlooked. The “thirty” in one-thirty is spelled wrong. And now, well now, we will have to reprint. I have to discuss this with my printer first thing Monday morning if I can get on his schedule. I am really at a loss for words at the moment.

Oh goodness.

THIRY : wedding invitations providence stationery Invite invite+

See it? Darn you, letter T, darn you. You ruined what would otherwise be some seriously gorgeous invitations.

Fortunately, the “thiry” has been reprinted as “thirty”. The invitations have been assembled. And sent. I’m not privy to what happened behind the scenes but I’ve heard rumors of begging and late nights. Phew. That was a close one.

Have you had a wedding “near miss”?

Woah, nice catch!! We went back and forth for a while about the spelling of “Honor” but luckily no misprints.

i’m an invitation designer and this is the type of situtation that gives me nightmares! you are so incredibly lucky that your designer is willing to reprint for you. there’s many company’s that won’t redo the job if you signed off on the proof. always check, double check, triple check, and then have a few friends/family check spelling for you before you print or approve your proof. i’m so glad they caught the error before they went out, and i’m totally feeling for your designer right now… she is most likely waaaay more stressed about it than you are. :)

OMG - and FH wonders why I was so intense about requiring him to proof the invites (even after I had reviewed them myself, sent them to my mom, had my co-worker look them over and sent to my personal assistant).

@Mrs. Guinea Pig: I didn’t even realize the title was misspelled, I had to go back and read it after seeing your comment. It’s like that study that found the brain only skims words and doesn’t read all of the letters. I totally just read the title as “thirty” the first time.

for my sister’s wedding programs, we were about a quarter of the way finished assembling them - all 100 or so were printed mind you, when we noticed the groom’s last name was missing a letter - those pesky german spellings! needless to say my sister the bride burst into tears, but we were able to call the designer (a friend) and have her fix it so we could reprint. not ideal as we had to start all over, but it happens! i’m happy that your designer was willing to reprint for you.

My graduation announcements were printed with my last name as Larers instead of Lavers. They reprinted them for free but then I used the mispelled ones for my friends and the real ones for family.

hahaha omg that’s sooo good that it was caught right before it went out though! I almost had a typo when I did my sister’s invitations! To be fair, you had to look REALLY hard to see if the “r” was a “t.” It was the font, I swear!

that’s awesome that the designer caught it! we had to sign our lives away on our proofs - if there was an error that we missed, we were screwed! nice catch! :)

Oh no! At least your designer caught it. Your invites look gorgeous, even with the “thiry.”

Whew, good catch! But oh well, typos happen, probably only one or two of your guests would have even noticed!

OMGoooodneesss! Why did same thing happen to us, but our invitations were already in the mail! I freaked!!!! Luckily they were our engagement party invitations and not our wedding, but boy do I feel your pain here! To make matters worse, a family friend that was supposed to be hosting the party pointed out the mistake in spite, literally a half hour after I sent them off. Such a buzz kill, let me tell ya! Good news… nobody noticed… and, if they did, they cared enough for us NOT to mention it :)
