About Mrs. Socks

Wheeling and Dealin’

June 29th, 2010 @ 11:06 am by Mrs. Socks

Wanna know how I plan on saving some dough on my beautification before the wedding?

I’ll bet you do!

I’ll let you in on a little secret: I use bargain sites like www.PhillyHalfOff.com, www.Philadealphia.com, www.HalfoffAmerica.com and MANY more. What these sites do is let you buy a gift certificate (usually worth $50) for half-price. I pay $25 and get a certificate worth $50, automatically saving me money!

Yeah, I love it so much that I had to make this pointless image in Photoshop. THAT’S how much I love it.

Many many different cities offer websites like these, and you usually don’t have to look much further than your local radio or TV station websites. So check them out because you could find some deals!

Here’s what I’m hoping to use these sites for:

  1. Manicure/Pedicure. I used to splurge on mani/pedis in high school, but since I have more important things to use my money on now, I hardly ever shell out the dough for a manicure. Half-Off sites will let me purchase a certificate and use it a day or two before the wedding (as long as I make an appt with the salon) and voila! A top-notch mani/pedi to get me in bridal condition.
  2. Hair trial. Usually you can’t purchase a certificate to a salon more than once, but if I get a discount for my hair trial, it cuts down on overall costs. I might not be able to use it on my wedding day, but that’s still a savings and if I end up NOT liking it and going somewhere else, I haven’t lost as much!
  3. Flowers. Not all of my flowers. I still plan on purchasing my flowers wholesale online, but if there are a few local florists that have certificates available, I can certainly swoop in and take advantage!

There are other services on these sites too, like formal wear stores and tux rentals, photographers trying to grow their business, sometimes there are teeth-whitening gift certificates, clothing store certificates, jewelry stores, tanning salons and I could go on!

So there’s my little secret! Do you have a plan for saving money? Have you used half-off sites for your wedding plans?

What a genius idea! I’ve used these sort of sites to buy restaurant coupons, but never for anything else! I’m gonna have to check this out!

Great idea. Thank you.

To save money, I’m a DIY Bride all the way! Well, except the clothes part. All decorations, flowers, runners, centerpieces are DIY’d by McGroom and I.

restaurant.com is where I purchased a gift certificate to take our parents out to eat after we were engaged. It was the first time they met each other.

Yes! We have used Groupon and LivingSocial so much for wedding stuff! Including:
-Dance lessons
-Hair & make-up for my e-pics
-Wine (we bought a deal for making our own 2 cases of wine)

And of course, we use these deals for restaurants all the time.

Homerun.com compiles a bunch of those types of sites together so you get one email with all the deals from Groupn, LivingSocial and a couple others all together. I hadn’t thought about using them for things like trials… excellent idea!

I”m all about lifebooker here in NYC. I got $80 eyelash extensions (normally $200+), $99 boudoir shoot (normally $300) and now that I’m married will use it to save money on my highlights and haircuts.
