About Mrs. Socks

Time to Sparkle

June 29th, 2010 @ 3:33 pm by Mrs. Socks

I love jewelry. Love it. It’s mostly my mother’s fault because the amount of mind-bogglingly gorgeous jewelry she owns.

My parents met at a jewelry store. My dad was the assistant manager of this store, and my mom worked as a sales associate. They worked together for two years before they began dating. My dad has stayed in the jewelry business ever since, but my mom has since gone on to do other things.

But having two parents in the jewelry business made for one child with (impeccably) expensive tastes. The pieces I’ll need for the wedding day: Necklace, earrings, watch, and a right hand ring.

Wait… watch?? What? I won’t need to know the time on my wedding day, right? It’s someone else’s job to keep me informed of the time, right?

Oh no. No way. I need a watch on my wedding day. I went to preschool with a watch on my wrist, and have gone barely a day without a watch since. Watches are a part of who I am and I’d love for it to be a fashion statement on my day. Don’t know what I mean?

Then let’s get to the watch eye candy already.

Oh hi there. Aren’t you pretty? Diamonds everywhere? Yes please! Philip Stein Diamond Infinite Pave Dial Watch $135/week from Avelle.

Another Philip Stein beauty with a calf leather strap. Less bling, but I love the band! Philip Stein Silk Calf Cocktail Watch, $95/week from Avelle.

Oh okay then, one more Philip Stein since Avelle is plentiful with them. This one has mucho bling and a sparkly silver python band. $135/week from Avelle.

Yum. Swarovski crystals everywhere! This is the Swarovski Elis Crystal Mesh Watch, $625 from Swarovski. But if this doesn’t suit you…how about a little color with that?

Need something blue, perhaps?

Or maybe your kickin’ pink heels need a partner?

A bigger statement piece? This one seems very much “me” and it’s $625 from Swarovski as well.

So it looks like I either spend $600 on a watch that I can wear for special events and cherish as mine forever, or pay around $100 for a couture watch that I can’t keep. Tough decision.

Are you a watch-wearing bride? What jewelry do you want to wear on your day?

I think my watch is just about the prettiest watch ever, but I still take it off for photos and definitely whenever I’m wearing even a remotely formal-looking dress. Just something about having that band on my left wrist doesn’t seem to jive well, to me, with all my other pretties. Just my personal taste though, I am sure yours will look awesome. It probably helps that for me, I’ll probably need the help of being watch-less to keep from subconsciously monitoring the schedule and stressing about things staying on track. :) I want to blissfully enjoy.

I’m not a watch bride, which is kind of funny because despite the fact that I’m ridiculously punctual, I’ve never worn a watch. You’ve picked out some really lovely ones!

i dont normally wear a watch, even though i have 4, but i’ll probably be mandated to wear one on my wedding. (and possibly yours! lol). maybe i can find a watch that looks more like a bracelette…or maybe i can work on my punctuality…

Those are gorgeous! I have a Phillip Stein Teslar watch…not a blinged out one, just a normal watch. You won’t want to give it back!! It’s the best. I love having the two time zones.

What a great idea to wear a watch at your wedding. I hadn’t thought about that, but I feel naked when I’m not wearing a watch. Interesting….I’ll have to rethink this. hehe.

I love watches and think they can look great with formal outfits. However, my taste for “dress up” watches leans more toward bracelet like and dainty. I have one that has a locket for the face–open the clasp and inside is the face. I love it because I can ignore the time if I want and it otherwise looks like a bracelet.

A watch with a wedding dress - interesting. Like everything else, if it’s your style you will rock it with aplomb. It just seems an almost masculine wedding detail to me. Besides, there’s something about bare arms that adds to the glamour of a wedding gown in my mind! (”What, me worry about what time it is? Darling, no, I’m the bride!”). LOL :D

Oh I love the colored blingy ones :)
Just another direction you might go in, have you thought about vintage? I am wearing a delicate silver watch with diamond accents that my grandmother owned- its’ so dainty its ridiculous.

I’m also a watch wearing obsessed person hahah so my FI’s grandmother bought me a beautiful pearl banded locket watch that says “live, love laugh” on it, which is the motto of our wedding… so it’s perfect! (she gave it to me like 2 years ago for Christmas so I will have to replace the battery before the wedding) I really like the swarovski ones :) something you can keep and wear to other formal events :)

@Miss Pretzel: I shortly thought of going vintage until I started picking out my other wedding jewelry…my bracelet and necklace are both swarovski, so I might have to get the watch to match ;-) Can’t wait to see your watch though–I’m glad I’m not alone in the bridal watch wearing world!
@cecullaton: That’s awesome that your grandmother gave you a watch that went so well with your theme!!
