Mrs. Earrings's Picture
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. About Mrs. Earrings

What am I going to hang in the trees to decorate the reception?

I can’t make up my mind. I am head over heels one day for one idea, and then the next day I see something that causes me to question it entirely. It is driving me nuts. So I’m writing it out as my new strategy for working out the crazy tangle my brain cells are in. Yes, I know I wrote about my new methods for taming all the inspiration… this is a demonstration of me trying to stick to those methods. So let us begin:

We could have the ever-popular bunting. It is popular for a reason… so very cute. And we are already incorporating fabric in many other elements of the day.

Or… instead of triangles, how about rectangles on our bunting? The ones below look easy… and there is no sewing involved! (They use adhesive backing.)

But… bunting doesn’t totally do it for me and I’m probably too lazy to make a whole lot of it. Plus all the fabrics I like are expensive. I could cut up old sheets… but I am having a hard time finding old purple sheets.

So… how about a paper doily garland? Or paper hearts AND doilies? Or fabric flowers? Like these ones:

They don’t look *too* hard… but… ooh look tissue paper fan thingies! And more uses for fabric: displayed in embroidery hoops!

Hanging picture frames?

I’m not done yet. Next, I will bombard you with Part 2. Are there any favourites sticking out from the ones so far, though? How would you decorate some trees for a picnic wedding?

Love all of these! I also love origami cranes hung from trees… but I am not nearly that skilled. I will prob over decorate our trees (we are hoping for an outdoor ceremony) and it will look like Christmas… lol!
Love your ideas cant wait for the next post

I’m doing the triangle bunting with leftover fabric from our DIY fabric napkins (which will be turned into a quilt post-wedding). I love the idea of fabric in embroidery hoops though. I saw a display like that at Anthropologie about a year ago and it looked so cool!

I LOVE the picture frame idea. I think it could even look cook if you didn’t have any pictures in them, just hung the empty frames. But I have a thing for picture frames :)

I also love the fabric in the hoops. That could look really cook if there were a slight breeze…

I love the frames and the balls of paper. I jsut think they’re pretty. However, I’m a giant fan of bunting. If only I had more time!

Good luck!

I love the bunting! But I could be partial as we’re hanging bunting around the gazebo we’re getting married in. =D I saw those hoops the other day and thought they were so darling (and very easy to make). You could easily incorporate a couple/few of them, I think, without it being overkill too. Paper doilies strung with frames hanging at the high points? Great inspiration… can’t wait to see the rest!

I’m stuck myself between making bunting and the sweet fabric flowers! I just started putting some of the fabric flowers together last night and I’m not sure about how fabulous they look – but I think they’d look much nicer in many colors strung up together instead of just sitting on my desk!

I really like the picture frame idea, plus its a way to take a decorative element (frames and matting) and combine it with a personal element (photo). My favorite tree idea wasn’t pictured here, and that’s the tissue pom. LUV um.
