Awesome Sauce New Toy!

June 29th, 2010 @ 9:07 am by Ms. Stripes

Greetings from Invitation Land! I just couldn’t resist sharing my new toy.

It’s an alphabet rolling stamp and it’s rad!

Check it out:

Seriously. My boss lady (as in the one I work with) and I became obsessed with finding this little tool after one of the stores we frequent started stamping our actors’ names onto a little tag on the bag. Cutest. Thing. Ever. And a vintage typewriter font? I die.

We started dreaming of all the things we could stamp and of course my mind went immediately to all the wedding stuff. We searched all over Los Angeles and beyond, only to finally discover this little tool here. Yes. Etsy to the rescue once again. Surprised? I’m not.

Anyhoo, a few weeks ago I decided to do our calligraphy myself (well, our budget decided) and I thought maybe I could use the stamp as a bit of a shortcut and just write the name, then stamp the address. Not so sure about that anymore because while I LOVE how it looks, spinning those little letters around takes forever. I love the vintage feel though, and even the little imperfections. It’s definitely not the neatest tool (as in cleanest/most precise) but it is pretty awesome in my book.

So what do you think? Keeping in mind that our shindig is a quirky vintage/modern lovefest, do you prefer a mix of calligraphy/stamp or would you go with all calligraphy?

I like the mixture because it creates a balance - the round and flowy calligraphy is accentuated when compared to the blocky serifs of the type. It’s really lovely!

I would do it for the return address since then you do not have to spin as much. I also will now have to do this myself of course!!

Love the mix! And if your hand gets tired from writing the names, then you can exhaust your other hand spinning the dial!

Love the idea of mixing the calligraphy with the stamp. From the sounds of it, it fits right in with the vibe you’re putting into your party. Right on!

From an aesthetic perspective, the stamp-calligraphy combo. VERY cool mix.

From a sanity perspective, write it all out. Or - crazy plan! - try the stamp-calligraphy combo, but give yourself permission to stop using the stamp if it starts driving you nuts.

I am impressed with your calligraphy skills! I tried that once. It didn’t really work out between us haha.

I love the mix, so as long as you have the patience for that stupid little dial (or you can do like very few at once and break it down, or get another one and enlist aid), go for it! If not, the calligraphy alone would still be gorgeous because I might have mentioned you have mad calligraphy skills!

So awesome! I think my grandma had one of those for dates when we were younger. I remember stamping away for hours with something that looked like that. =)

well, if you can commit the time and your sanity, I say go with the mixture, I think it fits your overall feel more.

Is that “Ms. Awesome” part in your calligraphy? Because that looks amazing! I love the combo of calligraphy and the stamp.
