Cotton Makes Its Debut…

June 29th, 2010 @ 5:23 pm by Mrs. Pashmina

… as a feature flower.

And, wow! Softness never held its shape so well!

Take a glimpse at these gorgeous photos from Jasmine Star Photography Blog. They shot an amazing wedding in Orange County.

The star of the show, besides the bride and groom, is the cotton! The floral arrangements were put together by Lauryl Lane and they are just so fresh!!

I love the different textures together, and the softness of the bouquets mixed with straws.

Very rustic, yet very fun and very chic.

Whats a new material or flower you’ve seen used for wedding decor lately?

Now that is incredible!! Never would have thought of that. I wonder, was it easy to get cotton clumps on the head like that or not? Hmmm… Very cool for their theme!

Agree with Texas Law Girl… eek. Not a fan. Reminds me of bathrooms, and personal hygiene, and, well, just things you don’t want to be thinking about on your wedding day.

But I admire their creativity, and good for them for doing something different!

I grew up with cotton fields stretching to the horizon from just beyond my backyard. When I saw something similar to this on the Southern Weddings blog, I really liked it. Thanks for posting more inspiration!

I like how different it is! It has such a rustic, Southern feel to it! If I was getting married in the south, I would use cotton!

I was SMITTEN with this idea for a very long time, but then was so sad when I finally came to terms with the fact that it didn’t exactly “go” with the rest of my wedding, lol! I love those pics though–I haven’t seen those before!

@Curlysue: After the cotton is picked by machines in the fall, there is a lot of cotton left on the plants. You could probably ask any farmer to go in and hand pick as much as you want. If there isn’t a field near you, it would be fairly easy for your florist to get from a supplier. It is much cheaper still in the boll because it hasn’t gone through the process of being combed.

Yeah yeah yeah- cotton. Can we talk about the scrumptious- caramel drizzled cupcake situations? That dessert bar is HEAVEN.
