Sister Socks’ Invitations

June 30th, 2010 @ 3:43 pm by Mrs. Socks

Before I reveal what we’re doing for our invitations, I thought I’d show you what I did for my sister’s invites! I do a little bit of design work since I work on websites for a living, so I offered my services to Sister Socks. I’m still learning a BUNCH in Photoshop though, so I have a long way to go!

So there you have it! The text looks a little fuzzy in these photos, but trust me, it came out crisply! I used Chopin Script and Lane fonts from www.dafont.com.

Kinko’s did a wonderful job helping me out with these invites-most of the paper for 130 of each piece and cutting the paper to size was about $160.

Have you offered any of your services or skills to a friend or family member for their wedding?

I’m from Ft. Mitchell so those invites definitely caught my eye! At first I didn’t believe what I was seeing haha. We are including directions in our invites (and programs) as well, and our reception is also at The Madison, and it all looked so familiar! You did a great job on her invites!!!

You did a great job, they look awesome!!

I ended up doing my own wedding invitations, which caused me quite a few moments of frustration and no doubt a grey hair or two as I was a total PhotoShop noob when I started (and still mostly am lol!)!! I had my eyes set on those lovely pocketfold invitations but ordering them in from the US was way to costly (and there wasn’t really enough time to get them done internationally either) so I decided to just DIY them myself. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find the proper sized paper either (largest cardstock I could find that was pretty enough to use for wedding invites was just slightly larger then letter size!) so I had to come up with my own measurements for the pocketfolds and make them from scratch.
That was the easiest part to do though hah, I surely didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I decided to design the invitation graphics and all as well. Luckily I got great help from a friend (who actually designed the two kitties with entwinned heart-shaped tails for me!! which we used as main graphic on the invites) and managed to figure it all out juuuust before I gave up out of frustration altogether.
After I finished the design of the announcement as well as all inserts (5 different once in total) and printed them out on my pretty paper at my dads color-laserprinter, it took me a week of hard work to create the incitations: cut, score&fold pocketfolds and inside envies, cut all mattes and print-outs into the right size, glue all bits-n-pieces together, etcetcetc.. If it hadn’t been for my mum who stayed up with me into the early hours every day I would have gone insane before finishing them — even my sister&bf came to help out heh. But the end result is lovely and the pocketfold invitations turned out wonderful. I had to let go of them with pain in my heart ;-) we got osme great responses on them though which made it all very worthwhile!
