Mrs. Knitting, TorontoAge and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD CandidateEngagement Date: October 2009Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club
About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
Family is really important to me and as I’ve mentioned, Mr. Knitting and I are trying to incorporate our families into the wedding whenever possible. One of my favourite ways we’re doing this has to do with the tie Mr. Knitting will wear at the wedding.
Originally I had planned to find him a vintage tie here in Toronto, either at Cabaret on Queen St. W, Stella Luna, or one of the vintage stores on Ossington St. While the rest of his outfit will be pretty new, I liked the idea of a vintage tie to tie into our vintage theme (yes, I crack myself up!).
Then I realized that I had an even better option at my disposal. Before he passed away, my Scottish grandfather used to wear his mother’s family tartan tie to formal events. This tie is both vintage and directly related to family! I love the idea of Mr. Knitting getting married wearing something my grandfather was so proud of.
Here’s a picture of my grandparents. I searched everywhere for a picture of him wearing the tie, but I had no luck. You’ll have to settle for this awesome bright yellow one: Read more…
Mrs. Trail Mix, New YorkAge and Occupation: 26, PE TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, MBA StudentEngagement Date: March 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Tannery Pond at the Darrow SchoolAbout Me: I'm a country girl who somehow found herself living in the Big Apple and loving every minute of it. I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. White wine, flea markets and running keep me happy and my friends, family and fiance are my world. I'm a little bit crafty, a little bit crazy but mostly just crazy in love.
I know, I know, you might be a little confused about why I’m confessing things after I was all, “My wedding was awesome, etc.” in my last post. Well, I mean, it was awesome!
BUT… I feel like before I get to all the giddy, fun, giggly, exciting and heart-sighing moments, I have to put this out there: I cried at my wedding. And not out of happiness (OK, fine, there were many moments of happy-crying as well. I’m a crier. We know this). Remember how I said it wasn’t perfect? Um, yeah, that part is most definitely true.
Honestly, the two hours before the wedding were some of the most stressful moments of the entire planning process. Between missing dance floor pieces, rain, a behind-schedule set-up crew, rain, the bouquets being different than I had envisioned—and did I mention the rain—there were several moments of tears and panic pretty much up until the processional started. Oh yeah, and because of the rain, we had to do pictures under an awning outside the ceremony site and every single guest saw me before the ceremony. Drat.
And then to top it all off, the power went out on our band during their second set. Twice. Read more…
Mrs. Pashmina, NYC/Catalina Island, CAAge and Occupation: 28, Arts EducationFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, IT AdministratorEngagement Date: April 26th, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catalina Country Club, Catalina Island, CaliforniaAbout Me: I'm a laid-back Cali girl who moved to NYC for school, and ended up staying for love. My fiance is a quick-witted Jersey boy, a self-proclaimed Foodie and the funniest man I've ever met. Together we love exploring the city streets embarking on our next misadventure---and yes, this often involves eating off food carts and trying "the next big thing". I'm the girl in the sundress, snapping photos and collecting trinkets of memorabilia along the way. As a girly girl at heart, I am excited about our romantic natural island wedding incorporating our American & Filipino traditions.
I finally decided on the bridesmaid dresses for my ladies, and thus gotten much closer to finalizing our color scheme. Our wedding colors are primarily amber, blush pink, peach, and deep rose!
Settling on these colors is mostly due to finding this J.Crew dress:

Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
Mr. Cardigan and I decided to have a pretty small bridal party, partially because we’re total recluses who don’t have many friends (what? At least I’m honest) and partially because the friends that we DO have mean everything to us, and they’re really the only ones we need.
My bridesmaids are so special to me, and I knew that I really wanted to do something special for them, because they mean so much to me and I didn’t just want to call them on the phone and ask them to be my bridesmaids (although, let me tell you, it was hard not to!). I tend to have trouble being creative on my own, and sometimes I need a little push from someone else to get an idea rolling. I searched high and low for ideas that I could steal - er, borrow, and I found some reallygreatones. But, there was one that really stuck out in my mind from Once Wed (where else?!):
Mrs. Socks, Southern NJ/Philadelphia, PAAge and Occupation: 23, Web Developer/Marketing SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Systems EngineerEngagement Date: September 7, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Ladder 15 RestaurantAbout Me: I am originally from the Midwest, but I love being an East Coast transplant! Mr. Socks and I are foodies and winos to the core---give us a hunk of cheese, some charcuterie and a glass of wine and we could die happy. We have two mischievous Wire Fox Terriers with completely opposite personalities but with a shared love of uprooting anything in our garden. Our backyard garden includes everything from tomatoes and peppers to a fig tree, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries! I love cooking, indie music, and spending time in our wedding city of choice---Philly!

Ms Seahorse, BostonAge and Occupation: 25, Veterinary Jane-of-all-tradesFiancee's Age and Occupation: 36, former non-profit fundraiser in search of something betterEngagement Date: October 17, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Fort Pond LodgeAbout Me: By day I'm a cat-wrangler, vet tech assistant, pet-sitter, receptionist, and pre-vet student, but the rest of the time, I'm a former-roller-derby girl turned dedicated-wedding planner. I love reading, writing, bicycles, animals, roller skating, and antique-y things of all sorts. I'm a vegetarian who likes spicy foods, while Fiancee Seahorse is a meat eater who does not like spices. We live outside Boston with our menagerie: a fifty pound dog, a one-eyed, seventeen-toed, toothless cat, and a perfectly put together cat who has a penchant for pooping near rather than in her litter box. In addition to planning our small lake-side wedding, we enjoy running around with the puppy, playing board games (Scrabble, anyone?), having little adventures, talking about how we should really clean the house more, and maintaining our little garden of vegetables and wedding flowers.
I do not know how to sew. I tried to sew a hole closed on my vest once, and it worked for the purposes of keeping the stuffing from coming out, but it did NOT look nice. I am not one to hem, alter, or create anything with fabric. I even messed up one of those ironing-glue-hem things.
Also, I do not have Photoshop. I do know how to use it, but I can’t get my hands on it and I can’t make pretty little pictures with all our person information taken out like you might see on other wedding websites. I can’t make beautiful inspiration boards that are easy to adjust.
That said, I know how to get very creative with PowerPoint. I know all of the image adjustments, how to line things up, how to bring things to front or back or group them or take a bunch of images and chop them up and turn them into a new image.
Today I was cleaning out a box that I should have unpacked a long time ago (this is pretty unheard of for me, but I occasionally do it, especially when I’m bored and no one is around to comment on such behavior) and found some of those DIY address labels. With some dragging and dropping and cutting and pasting, and of course the magical PowerPoint, I made this: Read more…
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MDAge and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non ProfitFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non ProfitEngagement Date: July 26, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Morningside InnAbout Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
We had wed and danced and eaten icky carrot cake. Suddenly, the clock struck our pumpkin time and we had to leave. Our guests were ushered upstairs and out, with bubbles in hand. We were instructed to wait just a few minutes and then say goodbye to our guests, on our way to the hotel by the airport that would soon deliver us to Costa Rica.
Mrs. Sand Dollar, HoustonAge and Occupation: 24, Graphic DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Electrical TechnicianEngagement Date: January 8, 2010Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: MacLean ParkAbout Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
I’m not really a ritzy kinda gal. My favorite places to eat are locally owned; I love consignment shops and parks. So after getting engaged, I started dreaming about our perfect wedding: A Rustic Summer Barbecue in the Park. Read more…
Mrs. Mary Jane, Grand Forks, NDAge and Occupation: 26, Instructional DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lead ProgrammerEngagement Date: February 28, 2009Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: City HallAbout Me: I'm a career woman on the surface and a homemaker at heart. I love fast cars and high heels, and my favorite food is cake. Mr. Mary Jane and I are both full-time employees and students, and we just bought our first house. We love to curl up on the couch with buttery popcorn, Sour Patch Kids, and the latest Netflix arrival -- whenever we can get a break from everyday life.
Well, it took a little longer than I thought between Part 1 and Part 2. Sorry! In Part 1, I discussed some of the things Mr. Mary Jane and I were doing to prepare ourselves for the possible snafus that might prevent us from fully enjoying our upcoming honeymoon trip to Secrets Wild Orchid in Jamaica. Now, I want to tell you about some of the things we’re bringing, and why.
For several weeks, one corner of our bedroom has looked like this.
That thing on the left is our portable rolling air-conditioner/dehumidifier. Please ignore it. It is not coming to Jamaica with us (though I’m sure Mr. MJ wouldn’t mind some extra cooling power on our tropical trip).

Mrs. Paisley, Orange County, CAAge and Occupation: 25, JournalistFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Spanish ProfessorEngagement Date: September 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Family Lake HouseAbout Me: From my earliest days I attracted attention, as much for my intelligence as for beauty. I display an originality, a perspicacity, a certain je ne sais quoi that sets me apart. I posses a mysterious authority which compels people to do my bidding. I am a regal blonde with classic features and the daintiness of Dresden porcelain. I am poised, soft-spoken, and well educated... Okay, now that enough eyebrows have sufficiently shot through the roof, everybody can relax---I kid! I'm just a sarcastic NorCal-turned-SoCal girl who loves outdoor activities, books, letterpress printing and of course, Professor Paisley.
We did it! We tied the knot! Words fail me right now to describe how fun, how meaningful and how amazing it was to marry my love on a perfect, warm summer day at my grandma’s house by the lake, where I grew up. The day was magical, personal and far exceeded my expectations.
Mr. Paisley, I love you so much, and am so very proud to call you my husband!
Our day was so happy, so charming and so full of love. It was intimate, with only our dearest friends and relatives. There were cool summer cocktails, delicious Spanish tapas, the best live “backwater blues” band I’ve ever heard, and the best wedding cake I’ve ever tasted.
I’ll let these few teaser photos speak for me until I get our pro photos back.
Mrs. Pin Cushion, Oakland, CAAge and Occupation: 25, Nurse Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, PhD StudentEngagement Date: November 23, 2008Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Radonich Ranch, Los GatosAbout Me: I'm the 3 Cs: crafty, creative and quirky (oh, that's not a C? Close enough!). I'm also a recycling fanatic, fluent in bad accents and I have the loudest laughter this side of the Mississippi. I have not just one sweet tooth, but a whole mouth full of sweet teeth. I cry at 97.4% of all movies I see, but my fiance's always there to hand me a tissue. My geek-chic fiance and I are planning a wedding full of color, cookies and handmade goodness and I can't wait to spill the beans on all of our crazy ideas!
We may have let our bridesmaids and groomswomen go hog wild with their dresses, but we weren’t so kind with our best man and bridesman! We brought our best “evil looks”…
… cackled our best evil laughs and demanded our bridal crew men wear exactly what we tell them to! Or else they shall bear witness to horrors not seen since the 6 fingered man.
Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. ThomasAge and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & HairstylistFiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio ProducerEngagement Date: May 22, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. ThomasAbout Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
One of my friends got married a few weeks ago and it was a beautiful ceremony and reception. She was the perfectly calm bride who figured she had done her best to plan her wedding and if anything went wrong, such is life. I appreciated all of the details she incorporated into her day, things I didn’t have to consider when planning my destination wedding: the bridesmaids’ dresses, all things flowers, color schemes, music lineup, etc. Then I stumbled upon this and I was so proud!
