Mrs. Knitting, TorontoAge and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD CandidateEngagement Date: October 2009Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club
About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
I still haven’t made a decision about which cake to choose, and frankly I’m probably not really going to actively worry about that for a while. However, I have figured out a new way to include even more dessert! I have a lot of vegans in my circle of family and friends. As I have mentioned (more than once) I love to bake. These two facts have led me to the decision that instead of buying a separate vegan dessert I will be making one myself for the vegans at the wedding. I’m really excited about this.
I know a lot of people think that vegan desserts are completely dry and tasteless and completely unappetizing. NOT TRUE. Check these babies out:
Slightly gloopy looking, but very delicious carrot cake:
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San DiegoAge and Occupation: 28, ProfessorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, InstructorEngagement Date: December 20, 2008Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood RestaurantAbout Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
Remember when I tried to DIY our centerpieces, failed, and Auntie Hottie saved me from my pitiful self? Yeah well, I got these pictures in my email inbox not too long ago. Here are some photos of Auntie Hottie’s latest creations. She made these for a family friend who recently had a wedding in San Diego. I had really convinced myself that I didn’t care what she created for our wedding. After all, she’s gifting us with ALL our flowers for our wedding. How could I actually insist on anything beyond that? I literally told her to do whatever she thought matched our theme and would be “interesting”. Read more…
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MDAge and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non ProfitFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non ProfitEngagement Date: July 26, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Morningside InnAbout Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
The moment had come. Through all of the planning, vendor-searching, wedding frenzy, the moment I had most looked forward to was our actual wedding ceremony. This small part of the whole day was THE most significant, meaningful part of the whole experience and I couldn’t wait for it to begin.
After our portraits, my girls and I waited inside the brides’ room, anticipating the moment we’d walk down the aisle. We watched, incognito, as guests arrived and were seated. I love this sneaky shot my photog snagged. I really have the most gorgeous friends.
The sun was setting just as the ceremony began. It lowered the 90 degree temps to something more bearable and made it much more comfortable for our family and friends.
Mrs. Pretzel, SeattleAge and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing EngineerEngagement Date: September 2, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown StudiosAbout Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married.
Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
I share Miss Seashell’s love of the ampersand. Mr Pretzel and I incorporated this textual detail it into both our save the dates “&” our invites. I recently discovered that my love of the “&” has led to a new obsession—miniature photography.
While we were strolling through Kohl’s (maybe stalking our beloved pet hair ball Dyson vacuum cleaner), we spied a table of clearance items… smack dab in the middle was an orange ampersand paperweight. Not only did it match our wedding colors but it also matched our kitchen decor—WIN! We scooped it up. It lounged around our kitchen for a few months until we were in Jo-Ann’s and I saw perfectly sized wooden letters to complement our “&”. I painted them green and was pleased with myself. Then I found our minis and I turned into a mini-photographer.
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New ZealandAge and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography StudentEngagement Date: February 14, 2010Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Gardens of the WorldAbout Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
Not the sort of “be apart” you might be thinking of. When we get married, Mr E and I will have been dating for a little over 4 years. 2.5 of those years were spent long distance.
Backing up a little: At the end of my senior year of high school, I had to go back to New Zealand. I was 17, and under the Indonesian visa system that my family was on, once I finished school I had to leave the country before I turned 18. That’s just how it works.
Mr E was staying on for one more year in Indonesia (he is one year and 5 months younger than me), before he headed to California. At this time we had been dating 7 months and we knew we had to make a decision about our future together. Breaking up… just wasn’t as option for us. We already knew that we had each found the person that we wanted to be with forever. (In Mr E’s words: we wanted to grow old and wrinkly together and sit on the front porch yelling at kids to get off of our lawn.)
But the alternative (dating long distance) sounded so hard! Read more…

He was attracted to my intensity, and I was mesmerized by his trivia pursuit skills and his dorm furniture adorned with his initials. We've grown more sophisticated through the years, with our love of wine, owning a house together, and parenthood (of a cat), but we have not lost our silliness or childish sense of humor!

Happy Monday hive! I’m so excited to announce our 2nd bee in the accessories generation: Miss Cardigan. Join me in giving this native Austinite a warm welcome into the hive!
Miss Cardigan, Austin Age & Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I’m a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I’m a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We’re currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can’t wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you’re planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we’re having the time of our lives and we can’t wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we’re so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
Mrs. Yorkie, Miami Age and Occupation: 30, Graduate Admissions CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Asst. Professor Engagement Date: July 3, 2008Wedding Date: June 2009Venue: Red Fish GrillAbout Me: I’m an East Coast girl with a crafty streak who loves traveling, photography and being outdoors (barefoot, if possible). When I do have to wear shoes, I prefer Mizunos, and have worn out a few pairs running marathons. I have a thing for chai, crossword puzzles, Apples to Apples, The Office and my real-life Yorkie, Bella. My West Coast transplant, Mr. Yorkie, roots for the Buckeyes, loves baseball, and climbs mountains for fun. We’re planning a fun little seaside wedding filled with handmade details and vintage charm. I can hardly wait!
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
Growing up, my dream honeymoon was Walt Disney World. Then after going on my first vacation with Mr. S to Disney, I realized it can be way more fun as an adult (note to avoid going during school breaks and summer). As we started thinking of our honeymoon, Disney was in the running, but Florida is the only place we’ve really gone on vacation together. So, we started to consider tropical beaches and started thinking of various spots in the Caribbean or Hawaii.
Mrs. Scissors, LaGrange, GAAge and Occupation: 25, Photography & Graphic DesignFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!
I’m partaking in the “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue” tradition. I had the old, new, borrowed, and sixpence on lockdown (and to be revealed later!), but was clueless as to what would be my blue. For a while, I contemplated using Chanel’s Nouvelle Vague as my toenail polish for blue-ish toes, but wasn’t totally sold on that—I didn’t want to look like or imply that I had cold feet!
A few days ago, Mr. Scissors suggested the best something blue ever. I mean, seriously. Perfect.
Ms Seahorse, BostonAge and Occupation: 25, Veterinary Jane-of-all-tradesFiancee's Age and Occupation: 36, former non-profit fundraiser in search of something betterEngagement Date: October 17, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Fort Pond LodgeAbout Me: By day I'm a cat-wrangler, vet tech assistant, pet-sitter, receptionist, and pre-vet student, but the rest of the time, I'm a former-roller-derby girl turned dedicated-wedding planner. I love reading, writing, bicycles, animals, roller skating, and antique-y things of all sorts. I'm a vegetarian who likes spicy foods, while Fiancee Seahorse is a meat eater who does not like spices. We live outside Boston with our menagerie: a fifty pound dog, a one-eyed, seventeen-toed, toothless cat, and a perfectly put together cat who has a penchant for pooping near rather than in her litter box. In addition to planning our small lake-side wedding, we enjoy running around with the puppy, playing board games (Scrabble, anyone?), having little adventures, talking about how we should really clean the house more, and maintaining our little garden of vegetables and wedding flowers.
Oh, you guys. I know I’ve sort of disappeared. I know, I don’t call or even answer text messages. No one has died, I’ve just been busy. Busy aparguing.
Aparguing has taken over much of the time I spend outside of home and nearly all of the time I spend in our apartment. What is aparguing, you ask? It must be fun, enchanting really, if you are willing to dedicate so much of your precious, precious time to it. Well, let me tell you! Aparguing is arguing about your apartment (apartment+arguing=aparguing). And it turns out that Fancee and I are pretty darn good at it.
Fancee, ready to apargue with me and/or the color of the walls.
The thing about it is that it’s just a starting point. Read more…

Mrs. Thimble, NYC/PhiladelphiaAge and Occupation: 26, Actress & Costume Designer (+ day job)Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lawyer & Techie WizEngagement Date: August 22, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Pearl S. Buck HouseAbout Me: I’m an easily inspired over-thinker delighted with the process of designing, building, directing and {dare I say} co-starring in the early-autumn affair I’ve been dreaming up. I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life. We’re both mid-career transition and ready to move back to small-townish TBD, PA in a pre-wedding flurry of all-good life changes.
I must have had blinders on for the last several months, or I was simply skimming the surface of stationery research, or after a while all the wonderful designers on the web and all the ads on my favorite blogs have become white noise (yes I admit this happens as I often get to the point of skimming through my daily reads on auto-pilot. A 26 month engagement will do that to a girl).
What I’m trying to say is: Did you know about Weddingchicks? Beautiful blog, yes? Now click on this one. Back? I know it’s nutty, but it’s true. Those are downloadable templates of monograms, save the dates, and invitations to use, free of charge, in your own DIY wedding projects. How cool is that??? Twitter was aflutter with a promo for them one day, so I clicked on over and my jaw nearly dropped. Looks like drink stirrers and custom coasters might be in my future after all.

I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
