One year ago, on our negative-one-year-aversary, I wandered over to FutureMe.org and sent Future PChips (now Present PChips) an email, which will be delivered on the day of the wedding, i.e. today. (This time travel business is confusing.) This is my unedited, uncensored email to myself.
Dear FutureMe,
Heyo! It’s one year till your Big Fancy Special Day. Let me tell you a bit about yourself (myself? This is confusing) right now: Last night you and Dave watched a Travel Channel special about top Caribbean honeymoons (that was made in the ’80s? Wowsa. You laughed. A lot.) and researched some spots. I hope you decided on something good and were able to pay for it. I hope you decided to upgrade to the honeymoon suite. Anyhoo, you did yoga and stopped at the local Mexican restaurant and ate nachos and laughed and talked about how awesome and carefree and cool your wedding and honeymoon will be. I hope the rest of the year brought more fun, less stress. I hope you didn’t, for a moment, let this thing turn into something bigger than you two. I hope you kept perspective and focused on the marriage, and not the Big Fancy Day stuff. I bet you did all right. Atta girl!

I am meant to be writing my final research paper for my linguistics class. But clearly, blogging is more fun.
Therefore I will take the opportunity to tell a bit of the story of Mr E and I. Because really… how does a California boy end up meeting and falling in love with a Kiwi girl in Indonesia?
Both our parents work with organisations in Indonesia. My family moved there when I was 2, and Mr E was 7 when his family made their big Southern hemisphere move. We were actually both living on the same island for a number of years, but I lived inland (in a tiny village, no less) and he lived in the city on the coast. It wasn’t until my sophomore year of high school (Form 5 for fellow kiwis) that we first met when my family moved to the coast so my siblings and I could go to the International school there.
Now… I’m a little… shy. So when an extroverted tall boy with a fro (the fro that ROCKS!) plonks down across the table from me at lunch and says something flirtatious (OK I can’t remember what he said but I do know it made me go beet-red) I just don’t know what to do.

While on our honeymoon, Mr. Dolphin and I enjoyed seeing all the pictures from our wedding our guests were uploading to a share website we set up (via MobileMe) and Facebook. Since the neither of us could barely recollect what happened on our wedding day, it was wonderful to view our day through the eyes of our guests. Many captured moments we forgot about, and details we never got to see. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from our special day, captured by our guests, and of course, with a little commentary from yours truly.

I was so happy when I saw this picture uploaded on Facebook by a family member, and so glad someone enjoyed our water bottles enough to take a picture of them.

Back in early February, I attended a special taping of the Martha Stewart Show celebrating the 15th anniversary of Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine. Had I known I would be featured on camera 2 months after giving birth, I would have worn something more slimming than this ruffled concoction!

I would consider the bridal shower I threw this past Memorial Day a success despite some really hot and sunny weather!
Let’s pretend that there isn’t an umbrella in the picture above. It was beautiful outside, but maybe a little too beautiful for the dessert table. 90-something degrees with no shade makes for a little melted chocolate… hence the umbrella. Melted or not, I think the red, white, and aqua color scheme really came across well on the dessert bar! The Jones soda really brought it all together, I think.

Mr. S and I are so appreciative knowing that our friends and family will be traveling to see us say, “I do.” Choosing the location was an easy choice for sentimental reasons, but I do feel bad that everyone will have to travel. We really didn’t have a choice on travel, because either of our home towns would still cause a large number of our guests to travel.
We’ve tried to come up with ways to make their stay comfortable. None of these ideas are really earth-shattering, but I still think these little details make a difference.
1. Send Save the Dates. Our wedding isn’t during the summer or on a holiday weekend, but due to the travel involved, we felt it was important to give our guests advance notice. We sent hotel block information as well as a link to our wedding website. Our room blocks end 2 months prior to the wedding, which is when our invitations will go out. The save the dates were a great way to give advance notification.

I can’t believe how fast the year flew by. I remember sending our invitations, shopping for dresses and the jewelry making adventures during planning.
For my gift to the hubs, I had to make it. I just couldn’t avoid crafts for this. For crying out loud, the first year gift’s tradition is paper. Doesn’t that scream, craft me!?
Anywho, I went to Hobby Lobby, and picked up scrapbook paper (in our wedding colors and some lovey dovey paper prints) with a candy jar. I was on a mission.
The idea? To show the hubs that it’s the small things that matter. Tiny, small favors that brighten the day. I wrote down 52 small favors to do for my husband (one each week this year). These favors range from washing his car to cooking up his favorite meal to giving him “me” days in the house.
This week, he picked the one where I say I’ll do all the dishes this week. Ack!
Here are the 52 small favors all folded up.

Today’s review comes from jmc of her photographer, Michael Simon Wedding Photography!

I can’t recommend Michael highly enough. I found him through Google-searching our venue, and liked his photographs right away. When we met with him, we both really enjoyed how he managed to seem at once very laid-back and also completely competent, which is exactly the vibe we wanted from our photographer.
There was T minus 1 hour until we wed. We had some portraits to knock out, and knock out we did. Take a gander for yourselves.
Ok yes, I’m excitable, extremely so, I admit it.

We woke up really early (like 6:30 AM) Sunday morning to do the remaining prep work for our friends Michelle and Graham’s brunch. It was worth it. Everything turned out well and the happy couple was ecstatic. They were also pleasantly surprised by the slight nod to Spain (Michelle studied in Spain for a year, and also brought along her friends visiting from Galicia).

Remember the potted hydrangea?
On Wednesday morning around four, lightning struck the Artisan Ballroom at Barr Mansion and burned it to the ground. By the time reporters got there, the sun was rising and ashes were still smoldering. The place where the Dude and I said our vows and became husband and wife barely nine months ago is no longer standing.

Hi, hive! I’m still waiting for my pro pics, but I just missed y’all so much that I decided to start my recaps a little early! You don’t mind, do you? But first, what do you think of my recaps title? Say it out loud, you won’t regret it. Clever, huh? Thank you Mrs. Cupcake for the suggestion!
First up, the tea ceremony.
Yeah, I try to clean up nice every once in a while.
But first first, I just want to clarify before I get the inevitable question.

Last night, Mr. Octopus and I cracked a bottle of wine, opened our computers, and settled down to do one of the more fun aspects of wedding planning: picking the “special songs” for our wedding reception. We’re possibly jumping the gun on this a little, seeing as our information sheet isn’t due to the DJ for, like, two more months, but it’s fun! So, why not?
The very first choice we made was our bridal party entrance song. Over the past few months, we’ve been watching the entire series of The Wire (it’s unbelievably amazing! Put it on your Netflix queue, you won’t be sorry!), and we have been super into this song ever since it was featured in season 4. So, our bridesmaids and groomsmen will be announced to…
“Move on Up,” by Curtis Mayfield. We listened to this song probably four times more than necessary last night. Oh man, it’s so fun.
Our entrance together is a special request of mine, because I happen to love the singer so very, very much. We’ll be walking in accompanied by the sassy, fierce sounds of…
