Mrs. Turtle, Central CaliforniaAge and Occupation: 21, Art Student/TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 22, English StudentEngagement Date: August 16, 2008Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Mr. Turtle's Grandparents' backyard, Arroyo Grande, CAAbout Me: I am a California girl who loves the beach and the mountains, but is quite satisfied living right in the middle where I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I am happiest when traveling to faraway places, wandering through museums, watching old movies, or baking up a storm. Mr. Turtle and I are high school sweethearts and fellow book nerds who both drive Mini Coopers and are most likely to be found browsing in antique stores. We're having so much fun planning our European garden wedding with a vintage twist and can't wait to share more of life's adventures together!
When it came time to choose my wedding day scent, there wasn’t a question in my mind! I’ve been wearing the same perfume every day for over five years and I never get sick of it! I totally feel a connection to this scent. My fiance associates it with me, and I even have a sweet little story to go with it! Who’s the lucky winner, you ask? It’s Flowerbomb, by Viktor & Rolf! Flowerbomb’s website describes the fragrance as a floral explosion that has the power to make everything seem more positive; it’sa mixture of Sambac Jasmine, Centifolia Rose, Cattleya Orchid, and Ballerina Freesia bloom on a base of Patchouli.
Mrs. Dolphin, Gainesville, FLAge and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface DeveloperEngagement Date: February 14, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Plantation Bay Country ClubAbout Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
The day before Mr. Dolphin’s and my wedding, I threw a small little lunch for my awesome bridesmaids, Mr. Dolphin’s momma and my momma. I set up the luncheon at a local place in Ormond Beach, Frappes North.
Okay, before I start the story of how fabulous our lunch was (and finally reveal my gifts for my beautiful bridesmaids and mothers), I have to say something about the restaurant we lunched at. Number 1: I hadn’t had lunch/dinner/whatever there in YEARS, but I remembered it being a nice classy establishment way back when, so I thought it would be a safe bet for lunch. WRONG. Although, the food was nice, the place left little to be desired. I was actually sort of embarrassed when I went inside with my ladies. From the weird ’old’ smell, to the smallness of the place, and the fact that they sat us RIGHT NEXT TO the doors to the kitchen, it made me a little upset/embarrassed and I couldn’t believe I took my sweet ladies here.
But, alas, we were already there and my type-A bride-ness had to just GET OVER IT. Cause we were having lunch here whether I liked it or not.
Mrs. Pashmina, NYC/Catalina Island, CAAge and Occupation: 28, Arts EducationFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, IT AdministratorEngagement Date: April 26th, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catalina Country Club, Catalina Island, CaliforniaAbout Me: I'm a laid-back Cali girl who moved to NYC for school, and ended up staying for love. My fiance is a quick-witted Jersey boy, a self-proclaimed Foodie and the funniest man I've ever met. Together we love exploring the city streets embarking on our next misadventure---and yes, this often involves eating off food carts and trying "the next big thing". I'm the girl in the sundress, snapping photos and collecting trinkets of memorabilia along the way. As a girly girl at heart, I am excited about our romantic natural island wedding incorporating our American & Filipino traditions.
Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
Okay, before I get started on this tutorial, I just have to get something out of my system:
You’re gonna love my nuts!!!
Anyone? Anyone? I had this commercial from the sham-wow guy running through my head the entire time I was writing the post. It makes me laugh every time. I’ll never understand why he says that, but I love it.
Mrs. Seashell, Chicago, IL / Providence, RIAge and Occupation: 28, Marriage and Family TherapistFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Electrical EngineerEngagement Date: September 3, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: The Glen Manor HouseAbout Me: Fonts and fashion, stationery and Sundays, photography and french toast... the beauty is in the details for this fun-loving Chicagoan who loves to plan plan plan! The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
My parents met at Brown University and were married at Manning Chapel 35 years ago. When Mr. Seashell and I began talking about marriage I honestly didn’t have a vision of where we would exchange our vows. But when Mama Seashell said, “What do you think about getting married about Manning?” I was immediately in love with the idea. Read more…
Mrs. Scissors, LaGrange, GAAge and Occupation: 25, Photography & Graphic DesignFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!
Mrs. Oyster, DallasAge and Occupation: 30, Music TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 46, Art TeacherEngagement Date: January 9, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: The Tower ClubAbout Me: I'm a Texa-Californian with a penchant for sparkly things and a tendency to think a lot. I've been known to sing random songs or dance when there is no music on. My fiance and I love world culture, we love to travel, and we have an incredibly eclectic taste in music. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate our marriage with our family & closest friends. We're planning an “urban black-tie” wedding and hope to incorporate our personalities and some of our own interests. We look forward to a life of love, laughter, good music, beautiful art, and to creating our home together with our four (!) cats.
One of the things I’m scrambling around doing in these last two weeks is ordering copious amounts of lingerie, because, well, I’m getting married, and… well, you know.
A few years ago, a friend who was getting married called me in an hysterical panic because her future mother-in-law had purchased bridal lingerie for her, and presented it to her at her shower. She was incensed, and embarrassed, and annoyed, and I (and my eardrum) got the brunt of it.
I managed to calm her down and told her that this acknowledgment of the sexual aspect of marriage is very, very common (she is from a country and culture where this is definitely not the case) and we had a pretty good conversation about how people all over the world, particularly women, help each other out when it comes to that whole “marital bedroom” business. Mrs. Socks, Southern NJ/Philadelphia, PAAge and Occupation: 23, Web Developer/Marketing SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Systems EngineerEngagement Date: September 7, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Ladder 15 RestaurantAbout Me: I am originally from the Midwest, but I love being an East Coast transplant! Mr. Socks and I are foodies and winos to the core---give us a hunk of cheese, some charcuterie and a glass of wine and we could die happy. We have two mischievous Wire Fox Terriers with completely opposite personalities but with a shared love of uprooting anything in our garden. Our backyard garden includes everything from tomatoes and peppers to a fig tree, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries! I love cooking, indie music, and spending time in our wedding city of choice---Philly!
I love jewelry. Love it. It’s mostly my mother’s fault because the amount of mind-bogglingly gorgeous jewelry she owns.
My parents met at a jewelry store. My dad was the assistant manager of this store, and my mom worked as a sales associate. They worked together for two years before they began dating. My dad has stayed in the jewelry business ever since, but my mom has since gone on to do other things.
But having two parents in the jewelry business made for one child with (impeccably) expensive tastes. The pieces I’ll need for the wedding day: Necklace, earrings, watch, and a right hand ring.
Wait… watch?? What? I won’t need to know the time on my wedding day, right? It’s someone else’s job to keep me informed of the time, right?
Oh no. No way. I need a watch on my wedding day. I went to preschool with a watch on my wrist, and have gone barely a day without a watch since. Watches are a part of who I am and I’d love for it to be a fashion statement on my day. Don’t know what I mean?
Then let’s get to the watch eye candy already. Read more…
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
One of the best thing about bridesmaids is the support. With close to 100 days to go to the wedding, I need a lot of it, especially in the fitness area. I am not a huge lover of the gym or working out. I actually hate the gym. I went once in college and didn’t go back. I tried again after our engagement, but only lasted a few months. I prefer group exercising like hiking with friends.
So for someone who hates the gym and is super busy, it’s hard to find the motivation to get in shape. Read more…
Mrs. Cheeseburger, Baltimore, MD/State College, PAAge and Occupation: 25, Medical StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Medical StudentEngagement Date: June 28, 2008Wedding Date: March 2010Venue: Catholic Church Ceremony & Hotel ReceptionAbout Me: I'm a passionate girl from Pittsburgh, currently living in Baltimore for school, who loves Penn State, seeing movies, football, thunderstorms, black and white photos, Christmas, good beer, my amazing friends and family, and of course, my mister! We met, fell in love, got engaged, and will be married at our alma mater (go lions!) in a traditional Catholic ceremony followed by a hotel reception with lots of DIY details. It means so much to have our families and friends meet at our favorite place on earth to celebrate our love for one another - I truly couldn't ask for anything more!
After opening his present, it was time for Burger to become a groom.
Am I the only one who loves pictures of the groom getting ready? I have tons of inspiration photos saved, and getting these photos of Burger was always a priority for me.
I know these shots might not be too exciting for the hive, but I love them. When I look at them, all I can think is, ‘ohmygoodness, this is my husband.’ It’s wonderful.
Anyway, back to becoming a groom! First - button up that shirt!
We originally planned to nix the vests, but I’m so glad we didn’t - I loved the way the guys’ tuxes ended up looking. Read more…
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New ZealandAge and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography StudentEngagement Date: February 14, 2010Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Gardens of the WorldAbout Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
And so the search continues for the magical idea that will grace the trees at our reception venue. The criteria: a) easy to DIY b) not too time-consuming (though I don’t mind time-consuming, as long as it is brainless enough so I can watch sappy movies at the same time) c) inexpensive and d) look snazzy (of course) without overwhelming the natural setting.
I love the look of Papel Picado… the lacy effect fits with our wedding, and these ones by aymujer on Etsy are drool-worthy:
Mrs. Parfait, ChicagoAge and Occupation: 26, TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Senior Online ConsultantEngagement Date: February 14, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Signature EventsAbout Me: I have a soft spot for all things sweet and romantic. Desserts, love songs, sappy movies? Yes, yes, and ohh yes. My fiance and I enjoy singing to our dogs, creating crazy ice cream sundaes, and generally being lovey dovey cuddle bunnies. We also do socially acceptable things like dancing, throwing Frisbees, playing high stakes board games, and taking unreasonably fun road-trips. We're planning a Korean/Serbian wedding with plenty of playful, personal touches!
When we were planning our Hawaiian honeymoon, I knew I wanted to stay at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu. It has all the makings of the perfect romantic getaway—remote, beach side, and totally gorgeous:
When we found out about their beach cottages, I was even more in awe! The prices were a step up from their regular rooms, but Mr. Parfait insisted on spoiling me. Heehee. I gazed at photos of the cottages online from the moment we booked it, and it felt like home from the moment we walked in. Sigh, I miss it. At least I got to keep the cute male model in the photo:

About Me: When my best friend dragged me to a toga party in our freshmen year of college, I was not expecting to meet my future husband; but seven years later, here we are. I'm a crazy-organized planner at heart, and I am a great lover of random trivia, books, chocolate, blogs, new and exciting adventures, mockumentary-style television, and anything heavily flavored with bright orange fake cheese powder. We're planning a festive and fun mini-destination wedding in the place where we met: fabulous Pittsburgh, PA! I can't wait to marry the man I love!
Oh, uh, hey guys! So, you know our wedding? The one I blog about, and that’s happening in 89 days? I’m wondering if, perhaps, you’ve noticed that I haven’t posted any actual evidence of projects related to that wedding in quite some time. It’s not because there aren’t any happening! I swear!
I’ve actually been really busy with a whole bunch of wedding projects, and I’m excited about how it’s all turning out. The only problem? Nothing’s finished! I’ve got scraps and bits and pieces of different things laying all around the house, but for various reasons (mostly related to money and materials), I can’t fully wrap up any of them yet. Related note: does it drive any of my fellow type-A brides NUTS when you have a thing on your to-do list that’s 90% finished, but because of that remaining unfinished 10%, you can’t check it off yet? There are like four different things on my list that are taunting me in this fashion. I am so neurotic.
Anyway, I thought I would give you all a few shots of the things I’ve got on deck, just to reassure you that there is, in fact, a wedding in the works over here. Read more…
Mrs. Knitting, TorontoAge and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD CandidateEngagement Date: October 2009Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club
About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
While in private Mr. Knitting and I are often embarrassingly lovely dovey with each other, in public we’re not. We’re pretty private about our relationship and our feelings for each other. I’m also pretty WASPy in that I’m not too interested in talking about deep emotional stuff with lots of people in public—stiff upper lip and all that.
A nod to my WASP-iness in our bedroom:
As a result, the thought of standing up in front of 100 people and saying wedding vows is absolutely terrifying to me. Okay, terrifying is probably overkill, but it seems really awkward to me. I love Mr. Knitting more than anything and want to spend my life with him, but I don’t want to say that aloud to a whole bunch of people. Read more…
