Mrs. Lobster, BrooklynAge and Occupation: 29, Finance GirlFiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Finance BoyEngagement Date: July 25, 2009Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Stage 6 Steiner StudiosAbout Me: I'm a New York-born, Virginia-bred girl who's found her way back to the big city. Mr. Lobster and I met in grad school and have been together ever since. I'm clueless about DIY but am an avid online shopper and love all things polka dots, stripes, and ruffles! When I'm not making wedding lists, you can find me looking for snacks, watching Gilmore Girls, or hanging out with Mr. Lobster and our new puppy Buddy! We are planning a fancy-pantsy Brooklyn wedding for a hot New York summer night which is sure to be a misadventure in the making.
Yoohoo! I’m back! The Lobsterlette Party was this weekend. And it. Was. A. Blast!
The weekend started with a VERY early morning wake-up call (4:00 AM) to catch a flight with Lobster gal pal L. I was happy to have a travel partner and may even have sneaked in a nap on her shoulder (I was sans Mr. Lobster after all) on our 2.5 hour flight to Nassau Bahamas.
Upon arriving at the airport, we met up with one Lobsie Twin, one L’maid Big D, and one very mysterious cardboard box marked “Fragile”. (All pics from me or Lobsterlettes)
What the deuce?
I was told they would be bringing snacks but not to this extent: Read more…
Mrs. Scissors, LaGrange, GAAge and Occupation: 25, Photography & Graphic DesignFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!
On Sunday night, Mr. Scissors and I had a massive dance-party with ourselves and the kitten––we finalized our choices for “the big ones”, as I like to call ‘em. I thought I’d share ‘em with you all, as well as our runners up, just because we had so much fun doing this. Also, way to put this off until the last minute, us. What can I say? Music was super important to us, so choosing it seemed virtually impossible—we didn’t want to cut any of our favorites!
First up, is the song for the bridal party intro. This… well… I lied. This we haven’t decided on. There are two options. One is the cover of “With a Little Help from My Friends” by Jim Sturgess and Joe Anderson from Across the Universe.
Our other option for this is “Time Warp”. Read more…
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
Mr. Starfish and I had talked about marriage numerous times before he proposed. He had given me a promise ring during our first year of dating, during college. We both knew we would get married, but wanted to finish college and start our careers first.
Mr. Starfish wanted to pick the ring out on his own. He tends to pick things out I would never buy for myself and end up loving. I actually like his taste in clothes and jewelry for me better than my own… 99% of the time. My favorite coat and earrings were Christmas gifts from him, and my favorite dress was a birthday gift. So when it came time to choose a ring, I knew he’d find something gorgeous.
That’s not to say I never showed him any rings I liked. If I had a magazine in front of me, I’d show him something I liked. I tended to show him halo rings. I noticed a pattern after a while, and so I was surprised when he proposed with something completely different from anything I had shown him. Read more…
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MDAge and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non ProfitFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non ProfitEngagement Date: July 26, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Morningside InnAbout Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
I had to. There it was, at Victoria’s Secret. I saw it a few days before the wedding and Bridesmaid CH snapped it up for me. I couldn’t let the day go without immortalizing…
Mrs. Octopus, Boston, MA/Pittsburgh, PAAge and Occupation: 25, Grad StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Graphics Operator for TV NewsEngagement Date: May 6th, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Heinz Chapel Ceremony, Museum Reception
About Me: When my best friend dragged me to a toga party in our freshmen year of college, I was not expecting to meet my future husband; but seven years later, here we are. I'm a crazy-organized planner at heart, and I am a great lover of random trivia, books, chocolate, blogs, new and exciting adventures, mockumentary-style television, and anything heavily flavored with bright orange fake cheese powder. We're planning a festive and fun mini-destination wedding in the place where we met: fabulous Pittsburgh, PA! I can't wait to marry the man I love!
One of the most common questions people ask about my engagement ring is, “what kind of wedding band can you wear with that?”
Uh, good question. As you can see in these two pictures, the “basket” that holds my ring’s center stone is really big, and set really far off from the band itself.
Mrs. Knitting, TorontoAge and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD CandidateEngagement Date: October 2009Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club
About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
The St. Lawrence Market Sunday Antique Market is definitely one of my favourite places in the city. It starts at something like 5AM, which is apparently when all the vintage clothing store owners and interior designers get there to snap up all the best deals. I am still always asleep in my bed at that point, but I’ve still managed to find some lovely stuff. I’m such a frequent visitor that I’m pretty sure I’ll be finding many items for the wedding here.
Here are a few of my favourite finds (I apologize for my lack of photography skills):
Ms Seahorse, BostonAge and Occupation: 25, Veterinary Jane-of-all-tradesFiancee's Age and Occupation: 36, former non-profit fundraiser in search of something betterEngagement Date: October 17, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Fort Pond LodgeAbout Me: By day I'm a cat-wrangler, vet tech assistant, pet-sitter, receptionist, and pre-vet student, but the rest of the time, I'm a former-roller-derby girl turned dedicated-wedding planner. I love reading, writing, bicycles, animals, roller skating, and antique-y things of all sorts. I'm a vegetarian who likes spicy foods, while Fiancee Seahorse is a meat eater who does not like spices. We live outside Boston with our menagerie: a fifty pound dog, a one-eyed, seventeen-toed, toothless cat, and a perfectly put together cat who has a penchant for pooping near rather than in her litter box. In addition to planning our small lake-side wedding, we enjoy running around with the puppy, playing board games (Scrabble, anyone?), having little adventures, talking about how we should really clean the house more, and maintaining our little garden of vegetables and wedding flowers.
This has been something of a struggle for us. Changing our name - sharing a name - has felt important to me during this entire getting-married/becoming-a-family process. We aren’t planning on having children, and without children to unite us to the public as a family, the shared last name feels like a big deal. Otherwise, we could just be friends or roommates or coworkers you see hanging out a lot. Who hold hands. And kiss on the mouth. Okay, so maybe not just friends, but still - without children or a name, it feels like a mistake that could be easily made. We will be family and I want that to be obvious.
Okay, so let’s share a last name, no big deal, right? Except, have you met us? Why would we do something that would be simple? When my parents got married, they both took each other’s names, so my parents, siblings, and I all have the same, hyphenated last name; it’s DadsName-MomsName. Let’s say it’s Sea-Horse, for simplicity’s sake. So my siblings, parents, and I are the only Sea-Horses in the whole world. If you look up Sea-Horse online, you’ll get hits that are only people in my immediate family. I am the only Seahorse Sea-Horse, and I think that is really cool.
Fancee’s last name is McGirlfriendLady.** This is not the last name she was born with, nor is it the last name she grew up with. It is her third last name, and it is one that she picked out, and it is very meaningful to her. Read more…
Mrs. Thimble, NYC/PhiladelphiaAge and Occupation: 26, Actress & Costume Designer (+ day job)Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lawyer & Techie WizEngagement Date: August 22, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Pearl S. Buck HouseAbout Me: I’m an easily inspired over-thinker delighted with the process of designing, building, directing and {dare I say} co-starring in the early-autumn affair I’ve been dreaming up. I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life. We’re both mid-career transition and ready to move back to small-townish TBD, PA in a pre-wedding flurry of all-good life changes.
The last time I was in David’s Bridal, I was on the hunt for accessories for prom. I’m among the first to wed in my group of girlfriends, so I haven’t had the pleasure of popping in to try out a bridesmaid’s dress or shop with a friend. It would seem that my rubber necking drive-bys did not prepare me for what was beyond the window display:
Luxe-looking fabrics with thoughtful embellishments and the fluffy chiffon-tulle trend strumming my heart strings. That’s what awaited us beyond the DB franchise doors. It’s like they KNEW I had zero expectations and had made it their mission to prove me wrong.
My mom and I told the girl at the front desk that we were just looking at bridal party dresses—no need for a consultant or a dressing room. And within minutes we were back, tails between our legs, apologetically asking for some help with bridal gowns in the busy pre-spring Sunday rush.
Mrs. Pug, New York City/Half Moon Bay, CAAge and Occupation: 33, LawyerFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, dittoEngagement Date: July 2008Wedding Date: March 2010Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon BayAbout Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
Oh man I’m sad and I haven’t even really started this post.
So hive, now that I’m at the end of my Weddingbee journey, maybe you’d like to hear how I got here and what I think of this whole operation? Oh you do? Please read on. Oh you don’t? Meh.
How I found Weddingbee:
I was searching for NYC makeup artists long before it was necessary for me to even think of having a trial (like, summer of 2008 for my March 2010 wedding—before we, um, picked a California venue), and I came upon posts by Mrs. Peony and Mrs. Canary. When I clicked to see the next posts, it was a post from another character. What the…? I was confused and slightly ticked off.
It took a few times circling back to Weddingbee to figure out the site, but once as I did, I was absolutely hooked. I distinctly remember becoming a consistent reader in October 2008, and like many of you, pored over every bee and the archives to see what I had been missing!

Engagement Date: May 2, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Indiana Memorial UnionAbout Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
If you’re reading this, it means I’m currently in a Mazda somewhere on I-70, eating Swedish Fish or licorice, singing along to the Eagles with my almost-husband. If we’re not singing, we’re likely debating the nuances of a Jon Stewart rant or wondering aloud what the Kitty is doing. We’re going places.
We have a packed four days ahead of us — first meeting with our officiant, my one and only hair trial, reuniting with friends we haven’t seen in months or years, and the last minute details every couple deals with before their wedding. While the stress of planning may be high, I feel so calm and okay knowing what lies before us.
Marriage was always the inevitable for us — I knew this as soon as I met Ribs. I think at the very beginning of our relationship I resisted believing this because it felt too easy and too right. Three years later I know it isn’t easy, it’s just a willingness to change for each other, to understand each other, give when the other can’t, and take the moments as they come. Read more…
Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. ThomasAge and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & HairstylistFiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio ProducerEngagement Date: May 22, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. ThomasAbout Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
I can’t believe it’s been almost 7 weeks since we got married! In the almost 2 months since we said ‘I do’, Mr. N and I have actually been pretty busy…
First off,
We’re under contract!
(picture it white, we’re gonna paint it)
Yep, we’re moving to the ‘burbs and I’ll completely miss the city, but we found a quad-level, 4-bedroom/2-bath house in Glenview that we fell in love with during our search, and bonus, I’ll be closer to my parents.
Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/VermontAge and Occupation: 26, High School TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer EngineerEngagement Date: August 2008Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall ReceptionAbout Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
Mr. Pudding and I have been completely clueless about our first dance song. We have been talking about it for months, and haven’t been able to make up our minds. The problem is that while I would be content with any old romantic song, Mr. Pudding wants to dance to something sentimental, but not gushy.
Yesterday we had our first dance lesson. Since we didn’t have a song picked out, we asked our instructor to teach us to Waltz. To our surprise, we picked it up quite easily, and really enjoyed ourselves! We came home and began searching the internet for songs that we could waltz to - which is no easy feat!
Suddenly, Mr. Pudding stumbled upon a song that made him choke up. Mr. Pudding does not get choked up easily, so I knew that he must have found something good. What he found, was this:
Mrs. Buttons, Clearwater, FLAge and Occupation: 24, "Working on it"Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Financial ServicesEngagement Date: June 13, 2009Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Carlouel Yacht ClubAbout Me: I'm a self proclaimed perfectionist and a professional nomad (seriously, I've lived in TX, WI, MI, FL, NC, and now VA!). I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
OK, OK… I swear I’m not 6 years old. But I’m oh so happy to return to you as a MARRIED woman! Woo hoo! It feels good… it feels really good!
Mr. Buttons and I have been pretty busy in the past week (moving into a new apartment is exhausting!). And, as I am (im)patiently waiting to see our pro photos, I did want to take some time to complete some of the posts that I didn’t have the chance to share with you in the weeks before the wedding! I was a busy little bee, constructing a good deal of DIY projects, having a lovely bachelorette party/wedding shower, and the like!
And, I wouldn’t leave you hanging without at least ONE teaser of the fun we had at our wedding! Read more…
